President Joe Biden - Kamala Harris Administration

Never in my 50 plus years would I ever Ever Ever, see a citzenry defend the IRS and higher taxes. We are in bizarro world.
I despise high taxes. However, what I despise even more is the low-life criminal scumbags (rich, middle-class and poor alike) that perpetrate tax fraud while honest folks report and pay their appropriate amount of taxes under the tax code. In order to limit the number of those criminal scumbags, there has to be potential repercussions to committing tax fraud. Therefore, the IRS is a necessary evil.

I am just playin catch up, without really catching up.

If we had a flat payroll tax and no deductions, we could just basically eliminate the IRS. Instead they are trying to open Pandora's Box and double down on wealth taxes.
I'm all for simplifying the tax code, but a flat payroll tax doesn't work since the people with the highest income levels can make very little of it from payroll. Wealth taxes, on the other hand, are monumentally stupid for a whole host of reasons, including that a great deal of "wealth" is held in unrealized gains.

That will never happen. The Feds have no desire to institute a straight forward taxation scheme as that would pull back the curtain on the bull **** federal revenue generation process and the bastards cannot let that occur.

It will never happen, but that's not the primary reason.

Well the tax code is ridiculouly complex and open to fraud. Just make it a flat payroll tax and be done with it. My Father is a CPA and I remember in about 1975 one of his new client had to pay an exhorberent amount according to another firm. Dad went in there in found so many exempetions that the other CPA missed that the client offered our family a trip to Hawaii.

Never will forget that. Did not take him up, but if CPA's have such a descrepency of tax burden, then the "system" is broken.

I am a CPA too, although my core background is in financial audit, not income tax. The tax code is ridiculously complex, and it is that way for a reason. Politicians use the tax code to wield power and reward pet constituencies in order to purchase their votes. That is the primary reason that you will never see a very simple tax code.

There is no incentive for the Feds to make the tax process easily understandable to the masses. It fact it serves their interests best to obscure it as much as possible.

How you think it will pan out with "wealth taxes"? NO need to answer. Make the current tax code look like a Cliff's Notes version of War and Peace.

Just make it all a consumption tax. Scales with wealth and also let’s penny pinchers control their tax rate. Again the ******* Feds don’t want either of those effects to occur

I'm a fan of consumption-based tax schemes. Liberals will never allow that to happen though because consumption-based tax schemes are regressive in nature due to the fact that purchases of the basic necessities in life eat up a much higher percentage of the annual income of poor people than wealthy people. Liberals think the wealthy (defined as all upper middle-class to wealthy people in the nation, excluding politicians) should pay for everything while the poor and the illegal immigrants receive all goods and services for free.

That’s the mantra but let’s be honest. When I didn’t make a lot of money I ate at Chili’s or Applebee’s. Now I eat out at steak houses.

One method to account for that which FairTax has addressed it just give one nominal flat deduction per person/family. All consumption is taxed at a flat rate with a base taxation amount credit to normalize basic cost of living. Still simple and easy to understand abd still scales properly with wealth.

Liberals don't want to let wealthy people off with a consumption tax because most of the earnings for a wealthy person aren't used for consumption. They are reinvested. Like I said, I'm conservative. I'm a fan of consumption based taxation schemes, and I believe there are ways to structure them appropriately. The socialists running this country now have no interest whatsoever in exploring those options.

Don’t disagree. But if we are really interested in a “fair” tax this is the most straight forward.

'Don't be mad at the mirror if you're ugly': Vladimir Putin accuses US of 'persecuting political opinions' by arresting MAGA Capitol and DENIES ordering assassinations as he defends his treatment of Alexei Navalny

  • He asked: 'Did you assassinate that woman at the Capitol shot by a policeman?'
Vladimir Putin has accused the US of 'persecuting political opinions' for arresting the MAGA mob at the Capitol siege, ahead of his summit with Joe Biden on Wednesday.

The Russian president was asked about his jailing of opposition leader Alexei Navalny in an interview filmed in Moscow last week before his meeting with Biden in Switzerland.

He said: 'We have a saying: 'Don't be mad at the mirror if you are ugly,'" he said. "It has nothing to do with you personally. But if somebody blames us for something, what I say is, why don't you look at yourselves? You will see yourselves in the mirror, not us.'

'Did you order the assassination of the woman who walked into the Congress and who was shot and killed by a policeman?' Putin said, referring to Trump supporter Ashli Babbitt, who was fatally shot by a Capitol Police officer as she tried to climb through a window that led to the House floor.

Vladimir Putin accuses US of 'persecuting political opinions' for arresting MAGA rioters | Daily Mail Online

In some circles, people and legal scholars believe the government treating people arrested for the Jan 6 riots as political prisoners. Many of the arrested were charged with misdemeanors but they cannot post bail or rumored to be in solitary confinement like a felon. We've discussed how somes homes were raided in the middle of the night and there were some mistaken identities. Lots of money in legal fees for just being on capital grounds.

Meanwhile, liberals destroyed billions of dollars in property during riots but many were given slap on the wrists or excused. The cop who shot Babbitt has been kept confidential as "one of theirs".

This has the appearance of a violation of rights and abuse of power by the federal government who don't appear to be applying the equal protection of the law.

Biden calls Putin a 'bright, worthy adversary' instead of a 'killer' and warns US will 'respond in kind' to aggression while Taking Questions from ANOTHER List of Pre-Approved Reporters

  • The president took questions from printed card after making reporters wait two hours for press conference
President Joe Biden on Monday called Russian President Vladimir Putin a 'worthy adversary' ahead of their summit in Geneva – and declined to label him a 'killer' when asked to repeat a label he accepted in the past.

Instead, Biden called Putin 'bright' and 'tough' – but vowed that if Russia should continue its current posture on cybersecurity other issues the U.S 'will respond in kind.'

Biden's musings came during back-and-forth where he once again selected reporters to call on from a list written on a white card that he carried with him.

I've always been highly against cancellation of student debt (even though I currently have a decent chunk), but I am becoming a lot more open to wiping the slate clean. Then afterwards, a complete reformation of higher education. Everyone pumps these 17-18 year olds up full of sunshine and rainbows, instills they HAVE to go to college, then when they get out they're screwed for decades and no one cares. Also the inflation of college tuition rose drastically higher than pay rates. My grandfather talks about how he worked as a cashier during summer breaks so he wouldn't have to take out loans. I worked 40 hours a week, took a full course load, and pinched every penny I had and could barely afford a garbage apartment. These universities are for profit period. Something needs to change.
What do you do with the kids who dont have debt?

If the idea is to treat them in a way so they dont get taken advantage of, you cant just wipe out the results of previous cases and expect them to learn. The better, real, solution to not having this issue in the future is to hold peoples feet to the fire. And that's more than just the kids.

All you are doing now is punishing good behavior with future national debt and rewarding bad behavior of getting loans. You are just going to see more students take bad loans, because they can?

Even with bankruptcy as an option our economic system doesnt rely on it. And it would cause mass chaos, worse than the debt load, to just cancel that money.
