I mean we shouldn’t have a “closer” because it’s 2021 and the Rays have proven the whole “role” thing is vastly overrated. But I think when Greene comes back I’d want Martin in for the 9th if we have to put a guy in that role.

Also here’s another thing. Let’s say Ynoa comes back and is healthy from his hand injury. And let’s say one of Bryse or Tucker has a 4 FIP and ERA around 4 as well in that number five spot and Smyly isn’t a disaster. Would we want Ynoa starting or in the pen? I’d prefer starting and pick up a reliever but having Ynoa as a weapon out the pen for the last two months of the year would be really nice.

Like Johan is not good anymore probably. But none of those other scrubs have ever even come close to his 2017/2018 production. And Johan is 27 and we have him under team control through 2023 let’s at least see if he can do anything.

You’re 100% right and look part of this is AA’s fault for the absolute garbage options he has brought in and also not using the roster correctly but our manager is not putting the team in the best spots to win. He is continuing to make bad decisions.

It really should be this simple. Hell even if you have to play Ehire for whatever reason, then bat him 8th and give Heredia and his 126 wRC+ 6th for gods sake. We saw having Almonte in a big spot at 6th cost us a chance to make it a game yesterday
