Anyone that thought Pruitt was anything but a total failure at every aspect of coaching loses any credibility with me when it comes to judging coaches. The guy couldn't manage, he couldn't coach, and he couldn't even cheat, although I don't blame him for the cheating part because that's the norm at his previous stops. At Bama, GA, and FSU is the norm, and out in the open. Unfortunately everyone can't get away with it. There are definitely two sets of rules.

As to his coaching, his past success is all smoke and mirrors. He's really accomplished nothing. He's never been a "guru". He will never be a "guru". His reputation was built on players he purchased.

Horrific injury

Thoughts and prayers LeBron 🙄

Seriously though… if Lebron wants any part of a GOAT discussion, which he should be in, you need to have sack on the floor and stop this nonsense. Growing up, someone putting me to the ground while playing sports would result in me bouncing up like a basketball to show it had no effect on me

As the great Bobby Bowden said as it pertains to coaching, it's 95% the Jommys and Joes the other 5% is coaching. UT hasn't had Jimmys and Joes on an elite level in a long time my friend. The players hv to be in place for any coach to win and look to part. I'm sick of Pruitt this and Pruitt that. If a coach doesn't hv guys he ain't winning any where, and thus why the struggle was real. See a lot of yawl hv tunnel vision but when you tk over a team with no trench monsters it's always going to be hard to win whether it's Tennessee State or University of Tennessee. Lying Lyle left a mess and as I had said all along it was going to take the full 5 years to get to a place of readiness from a roster perspective. Even with Heupel to win he'll need 3-4 years. He lost studs in the shuffle and guys have to be replaced and then stockpiled. Then he lost that last year class with the kids asking out that were next level and was behind the 8ball for this class.

Yep, ole Trumpet boy is still my most depised coach out of the last 4 failures. He actually brought in enough talent to get us to the playoffs in 15 and 16 and managed to squander it terribly. Throw in all his corny slogans and that just amplified everything.

Got in the wreck just for this purpose IMO…..

I think if anything could motivate Tiger to somehow come back from his injuries and play competitive golf again, watching Phil win one at 50 would be it. Even more so than chasing Jack, at this point.

Tiger was 44. Extremely impressive, but he wasn’t 50. Oldest major winner ever.

Now if Tiger comes back after his crash and wins one, then that will be more impressive.

Also, Tiger won at Augusta, a place he knows well and has tons of experience. ANGC is the kind of place you can still play at a high level deeper into your career if you know were to miss. Its the reason you see guys like Couples, Langer, Olazabal etc. still play solid there at an older age. There are a few key shots at Augusta and if you can hit those and avoid big numbers you can hang in the tournament.

Phil just won at one of the hardest tests of golf we have ever seen. Kiawah was set up at 7600+ yds with high wind gusts to boot. He had to drive the ball very well(which can be his Achilles heel) and execute a large variety of shots tee to green to win. To be #1 in strokes gained tee to green at his age on that golf course setup is bonkers.

Phil's win is hands down more impressive if you look at it from an objective pov.

One could argue that Butch recruited better defensive lineman and Dbs than Pruitt. Pruitt oddly recruited well offensively but QB position handcuffed the group.

Pruitt couldn’t manage the board. He thought he could be like Saban and Kirby and get all the best dudes and not babysit the 2nd and 3rd options. However he was offering the same system without the results so who were they going to pick? A lot of times if he missed on top target he ended with with option D instead of B or C

I agreed with this and pulled for JP until he lost the way he did to Arkansas with a first time head coach, that had only been a position coach not even a coordinator, who came
into a worse situation than JP had 3 years before. The worst part was he didn't seem to care. It was always like he was doing us a favor, and Tennessee fans should just be happy with whatever they got. He gave the fans absolutely no reason to want to keep him around. Even BJ still had fans wanting him.

Obviously Bowden was just being humble in that quote. If that ratio was actually the case Pruitt would have been a lot more successful. He was getting better players in here and still regressing at the same time....
He should have at least beat Arkansas.

Smokey update: he’s started literally climbing my girlfriend like a tree. I have some competition boys
Looks like he's got a little Mississippi leg hound in him.

I felt he deserved another year bc I don’t think the covid season should be held against anyone whether it is good or bad......I’m glad we made the move though and with his personality issues..... I don’t feel he would have been successful here....I’m very happy that heupel is our coach and I am hoping he is very successful here.

It was surely great...but it wasn't better than Tiger at Augusta imo. Tiger was already held together with chewing gum and bailing wire. Phil winning yesterday was made especially awesome because of what everyone has been through.

On another note..did you guys not think it was weird how understated Phil was? It was like he had no idea how big of a deal it was.
Phil's arthritis equalizes the health conditions by quite a bit. I'll be honest, I thought he was done. On the contrary, he not only won the thing but had the longest drive of the week on 16 in the 4th round.

On Tiger, his issues were mostly self-induced by going overboard on training and (insert substance here), but his feat was almost just as amazing. I just always had the feeling he would and could come back. Age was on his side. It wasn't on Phil's.

And yes, Phil looked almost like he didn't care that he won. Barely hoisted the trophy, wife wasn't there, ho-hum speech. It seemed more like a guys weekend golf trip to him.
