I agree which is why I told ppl UT will never be UT being against coaches who do this or say integrity wins. What Pruitt was doing is the only way it will ever return. Crack all the jokes about McDs bags but those bags are needed in the worse of ways in Knoxville.

Yes but Pruitt might know defense but he was a horrible head coach for many reasons. Some coaches are great at their position or as a coordinator. Doesn’t mean they are CEO material

The scene on 18 was one of the greatest sports moments I’ve ever witnessed, especially given the last 14 months as a backdrop.

Athlete defying age? Check.
Popular athlete for the win? Check.
Major? Check.
Raucous crowd? Check.
Jim Nantz on the call? Check.

We just witnessed one of the greatest sports wins in history, period. Even better than Tiger at Augusta. Arguably the greatest comeback win ever given his age.
I’ll easily take Tiger’s U.S. Open victory at Torrey Pines on the broken leg over this win for Phil.

A little depressed listening to the newest episode of Locked on Vols. Eric Cain of VQ is the host doesn't believe we will have a top 20 recruiting class.

As the great Bobby Bowden said as it pertains to coaching, it's 95% the Jommys and Joes the other 5% is coaching. UT hasn't had Jimmys and Joes on an elite level in a long time my friend. The players hv to be in place for any coach to win and look to part. I'm sick of Pruitt this and Pruitt that. If a coach doesn't hv guys he ain't winning any where, and thus why the struggle was real. See a lot of yawl hv tunnel vision but when you tk over a team with no trench monsters it's always going to be hard to win whether it's Tennessee State or University of Tennessee. Lying Lyle left a mess and as I had said all along it was going to take the full 5 years to get to a place of readiness from a roster perspective. Even with Heupel to win he'll need 3-4 years. He lost studs in the shuffle and guys have to be replaced and then stockpiled. Then he lost that last year class with the kids asking out that were next level and was behind the 8ball for this class.

One of the greatest moment in sports happened yesterday. So good to see us getting back to normal again with so many fans out there. Our Gov better let us pack Nyland out. Its time!

Pruitt was and is a $hit coach who got blown out by the likes of Kentucky and Arkansas, kind of like how Fulmer was a $hit AD for wanting to keep that.

It was surely great...but it wasn't better than Tiger at Augusta imo. Tiger was already held together with chewing gum and bailing wire. Phil winning yesterday was made especially awesome because of what everyone has been through.

On another note..did you guys not think it was weird how understated Phil was? It was like he had no idea how big of a deal it was.

Tiger was 44. Extremely impressive, but he wasn’t 50. Oldest major winner ever.

Now if Tiger comes back after his crash and wins one, then that will be more impressive.
Do you not know how bad Tigers health was? The guy had to change everything about his swing to compensate for his back and knee issues. Numerical age alone doesn't matter in this case.

I remember a article I read after Phil won The Open that made a case for why he would be occasionally contending for majors into his 50s. His swing is built to last.

Probably because of the rings and the fact that, barring a career ending injury, he will be the all time leading scorer in NBA history. Most, if not all, of the modern era (90s - present) stars were whiners that worked the refs as much as any coach. Jordan- whiner. Pippen - whiner. Kobe - whiner. Shaq - whiner. Lebron - whiner. Tim Duncan - whiner. And on and on. Do some do it more than others? Absolutely. But they all do it.
Huge difference between arguing with a ref, and rolling around on the floor flopping like a f'n fish. Don't even try to justify his BS with that. He sucks...good player, but he sucks.

He didn't know enough about defense to get his players lined up or not have his bagman coach linebackers. Arguably the most important group on defense.

Honestly..I don't like you, but I have to agree with you to a degree, but It has to be done right...plus you gotta coach those guys once you get them.

Pruitt and his bunch badly failed at both.

Pruitt f'n sucked at his job..period. I pulled for him as hard as anybody, but this last year was an absolutely pathetic coaching job all the way around.

Obviously Bowden was just being humble in that quote. If that ratio was actually the case Pruitt would have been a lot more successful. He was getting better players in here and still regressing at the same time....

I'm not going there on which was greater, Tiger at the Masters or Phil at the PGA. Tremendous moments in golf history that I will always remember. Add them to Jack winning the Masters at 46 and you have a trifecta. All 3 overcame obstacles the normal human would not.

Tiger did change his swing and had numerous health related issues to overcome. He won that Masters by being smarter than the young guns and playing to his strengths. He let the others self destruct and was the last man standing. His will to win is unmatched until he undercuts himself as a human being. Tiger is the only one who stops Tiger.

But so did Phil. Phil has remade his body and swing as well while struggling with a serious psoriatic arthritis illness that can mess up the joints, particularly of the hands and feet with pain and swelling. Which is why he had tailed off so much despite the talent. After taking a more holistic approach to health, he finally got his mind right late in his career, which is why he lost in the past when he should not have. He actually did it Tiger's way. Played smart to his strengths and let everybody else make the mistakes. He now gets 5 more years to play at that level through age 56. Will see what happens - hope he adds to his win total. He went to a level mentally I have never seen him go and he can still bomb it at nearly 51.

The common denominator in both wins - Brooks Koepka made mistakes he should not have. It's Brooks' turn to learn the lessons if he wants to reach the heights of Tiger and Phil. He has the game to be able to do it. The question will be his surgically repaired knees. He will have to adapt to the reality. Trashing a guy playing on a recently repaired knee that he cannot fully flex is a bit ridiculous as a few have done. It might be good to note that both Tiger and Phil think Brooks is one who could join their elite status. The have great respect for him.

Spot on IMO.

Bowden had tremendous recruiters/developers of talent in his staff. Jimmies and Joes alone may give you a winning season subject to schedule, but never conference championship or elite status. Pruitt undermined his own staffs as well as the players at times. Worst HC in UT history in my lifetime.

The fact that Brooks finished second on that knee is remarkable. I have to agree with what someone else said though her needs to stop thinking only majors and start thinking win every weekend
