The Culinary Arts Thread

Yeah, I really like it. The Booker T. & the M.G.'s exhibit and Otis and Bar-Kays about the plane crash are really good.
I like walking into the room where Mavis and the rest of the family are belting out “Respect Yourself”.

But really, it’s all amazing, starting with the tiny country church where Black gospel got all this started. Really incredible collection of stuff.

There used to be a small music fest on the Meadow at Ft. Mason in SF. My ex's PR firm worked with them. I was 'backstage' for Mavis Staples and also North Mississippi All Stars. It wasn't a big deal, smaller stage on a giant lawn essentially, but it was cool being that close to Mavis. I was on the side of the stage very close. Also saw her open for Bob Dylan at the Greek.

I stay away from the Zone Gardening Thread because I miss planting and putting my hands in the dirt so much, I’m glad you missed the landing on this.
I had to do gymnastics in 9th grade PE (balance beam, uneven bars, pommel horse, trampoline, and floor.) I was uniquely untalented for this, and to this day, the phrase “missing the landing” makes me want to throw up. Because I did that. A lot. I probably hold the Punahou School record for falling off the balance beam. 😬

She’s an utterly amazing human being. The last one left of the family.

Did you hear that Bob Dylan wanted to marry her, and asked Pop for her hand? She turned him down.

I wouldn’t have given the marriage six months, but fun to think about.

Yeah, she actually told that story when she opened for him. She is pretty funny.

You know what’s coming next. Not that I ever got that far in the first place.

Really, for armchair Olympics watchers, you should try to learn some elementary gymnastics moves to really understand what they do. I was actually pretty good at vaulting (pommel horse), but abysmal at everything else, and truly terrified of the balance beam.

An athlete & a gymnast are different. A beam will make an athlete look like a fool. Being good on a one is some amazing talent. I couldn't stay on a beam & I'm not clumsy. Being 6-2 probably didn't help

Mexican Blackbird ain't no trail, it's a half black half Mexican whore.
  • Doc: You son of a bitch! You're starting to believe what they're writing about you, aren't you? Let me tell you what you really are! You rode a 15 year old boy straight to his grave, and the rest of us straight to hell... straight to hell! William H. Bonney! You are *not* a god!
[cocks his gun and points it at Billy]
William H. Bonney : Why don't you pull the trigger and find out?
Yur still going to have to take the Mexican Blackbird.
