I don't question the resolve of people to make a dollar. However, if guns were forbidden, the black market price would be exceptionally high (driving out small time bad guys from the market) and make those who do have the funds to acquire them more hesitant to use them (it would be a crime to possess them and by shooting one a person would give himself away as possessing one).
This seems like a very weak response. What public funds does a gun owner use by use of a gun? Registration is about taxing not safety.
And if you have taken the driver test in TN in the last decade you know it's not a safety thing. They dont even make you parallel park. One of my class mates passed even though he hit another vehicle on his test. We were laughing until he walked out with the license in hand.
And the license is to drive, not to own, the car. And you could still legally drive without a license of you stay off of public roads. So unless the government is going to start running shooting lanes you dont have a real comparison.
Licensing has zero to do with public safety. If it did I wouldn’t see people turning without signals, running red lights, tailgating, failing to yield, etc. There wouldn’t be old people cluelessly driving about if the license meant safety. This seems like a very weak response.
I’ve known plenty of people to fail drivers test. Poor execution by testing centers has nothing to do with why they test.
Licensing is absolutely for public safety. Registration is about licensing the vehicle.
Taxes are collected by dealers, although the clerk does collect on individual purchases. In states where there is no sales tax, they still require testing, registration and licensing.
With cars, the vehicle and the person both have to be licensed (registered).

streets. Unlicensed people can drive unregistered vehicles on private land and the Gov cant say anything. This seems like a very weak response.
