Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Here is an excellent commentary on the oft-quoted Denmark SIREN study on reinfection. There is some very good info here:

Oh man.

The findings of the authors suggest that infection and the development of an antibody response provides protection similar to or even better than currently used SARS-CoV-2 vaccine

Perhaps naturally immune people don't even need a vaccine?

It makes me wonder why natural immunity is completely ignored. Is it just logistical?? Even though there is immunity they state they don’t have a good answer as to what threshold of antibody level is necessary? Is it a testing problem? Unable to massively test people for prior infection? So the easiest way to get the broadest coverage is to have everyone vaccinated, naturally immune or not??

this quote is a ruh roh for the bottom line of vaccine producers.

The three large studies I read over lunch today reported a 0.4%, 0.65%, and 0.7% "reinfection rate," with most cases being milder in severity. These numbers translate into approximately an 80-90%+ relative protection rate, which would be as good as (or better than) available vaccines.

It will be most interesting to follow how durable vaccine-conferred protection proves compared to naturally-acquired immunity.

It's nice that were are finally getting some good, concrete data, but we still have much to learn.

Im in the same boat as you.

Will anyone study reinfections relative to active immunity plus acquired immunity and how that compares to people who get covid twice?

It's not ignored by ALL of us :)

I posted a while back Fauci clearly staying that recovered individuals are protected and contribute to herd immunity. Of course, that has been completely glossed over by the CDC and media.

I think that has great potential to be true.

With 40% of Knox County vaccinated and we are now seeing daily new cases in the single digits, I believe the idea that natural immunity is real and long term, is legitimate.

I've already seen a study showing that natural infection + one dose of vaccine = greater antibody response than two doses of vaccine.

I'm sure what you proposed is being researched. There are literally thousands of prospective studies in the works.

Anyone know a workaround to be able to post video from a phone? Would I have to upload it to Twitter or something, first?

It certainly matters when talking about community immunity. But it also has repercussions on functioning in society. Many places are making provisions for those who have been vaccinated (venues, summer camps, s hook activities) but not for prior infection. For instance, my 15yo, who has had Covid, summer camp is requiring vaccination but doesn’t allow waiver for prior infection. So I either get him vaccinated or tell him he can’t go.

It's just another example of how out of touch with reality these bureaucracies are. And it's really not great for the employee either especially if you are in a RTW state or hourly. My client requires vaccinations and you won't get the shot then I just don't work you.

OSHA should have left this alone. What's next? If your employer requires you to come to the office and you get hurt on the way to work will that be recordable?
People have lost their minds.

I hope Texas is successful, but I unfortunately think Gov Speedy's actions will simply show what I've been arguing for the past few days -- we're not sufficiently close to herd immunity such that Texas cases will continue to decrease to near zero. There will be another wave (probably modest in size). But hey, it's Texas. Dollar is king.

Care to revise your prediction?
