Heup has a chance to really overachieve this year. I preface this by saying that everything that follows is based upon Heup’s reputation to coach offense and develop QB’s. He’s never had a bad offense nor has he ever had bad QB play. Even with QB’s that aren’t great, he adapts to get the most out of them. Gabriel is prime example of this. Mizzou’s offense and Locke were complete trash the year before he got there.

Ok, that being said, Heup has a chance if he can do for us what lane did for Ole Miss and that is get our offense rolling. Whether we have a good defense or not, we can win games by scoring a lot of points lane won 4 conference games last year with a garbage defense. I doubt our defense will be that bad with us having what should be a good DL and a decent secondary.

So, 4 conference wins out of beatable opponents in Ky, Vandy, SC, Mizzou, Ole Miss.

Then you have the 3 cupcakes which should be guaranteed wins. Get 4 of the above and that’s 7 wins. In spite of our struggles, we still have a better roster than every team listed above. Ole Miss would be the only question there.

So, get 4, beat the cupcakes for 7, then you have a chance to beat Pitt for 8. Sweep those lower level SEC teams and you’re at 9 regular season wins. With the talent that we have on offense, this is absolutely doable.

Now, even if you just win 3 of those conference games, then the 3 cupcakes, that’s 6 wins with a chance at Pitt to have 7.

The 2nd option here is probably more likely, but again, we have more talent than those teams, especially on offense. Some may say “muh, linebacker!” I know. But again, we don’t have to be great on defense. We’ll be better than Ole Miss was last year I’m sure. But even at LB, we’ll have Banks, Joseph, Harrison, Willis, and French and I believe Whitehead. Pick up one in the portal and let’s go. Not a lot of experience, but there’s talent there.

If Heup wins 8 year 1 or, incredibly, 9, recruiting would take off and he’d win coach of the year. It’s absolutely doable, but probably not likely. Give me 7, 8 with the bowl game and I’m a happy man
If we actually have some coaches that can actually get the most out of the players we have, I think 7 is doable. Of course, we have a problem with depth especially LB. But the ones you named plus good reports about Young and add a good transfer, I think they can play better than what we saw last year even though we had u'no'who'o.

The one thing I don't understand is the incident at the strip club. The way I heard it was one of our players had Neids credit card and after a pretty hard night of partying, got drunk and left the card at the club. Someone at the club, allegedly, returned it to the UT athletic department to ensure their payment and then the sh^t hit the fan. Problem with that story is that the player, in question, is still a prominent member of the team and is expecting to play a lot this year.

I heard a different, more problematic story of how everything came to the scene with Neids involving a still very prominent player and a former player and as always, a girl.

Pruitt was about 2 violations from destroying our entire program... got an AD we all loved essentially “fired”... lost to Georgia state at home, got blown out by Vanderbilt, blown out by Kentucky at home, couldn’t find a QB in 3 years. If he didn’t play a godawful 2nd half SEC schedule in 2019 he would’ve went probably 5-7 again.
Fulmer got himself fired... he made the decision to not fire Pruitt after a 3-7 year in his 3rd year and caused other people to force the administrations hand in getting rid of both.

Neids was pretty bold--foot loose and fancy free with recruiting. Lots of stories out there that will come out before all is said and done.

Pruitt lacked the temperament to be an effective head coach. Fulmer was in a bind. Still prefer this failure and reset to the Schiano option. And awfully glad we ended up with Heupel instead of Franklin.

The more I hear about CJH the more I like. I told myself I wasn’t going to believe again. But i feel he has a real offensive system that will work. He is used to big time football. He won at his first HC stop. He was a good coordinator. Don’t recall the last time we could say that. Still not sure on his recruiting. But. Lot to like. I think. I don’t know. Been let down too many times
The players who stuck it out seem to really genuinely like the guy. I hope this is the coach.. It's past time we catch a break.

Completely agree. Crouch wasn’t good anyway. Henry is a huge loss. But I think we’ll be better everywhere else on the field except LG. Give me solid DL and QB play and let’s win some ball games

Nothing wrong with optimism and hope. Just keep your loins girded. No need for this to be binary. Kind of like Reagan's "trust, but verify".

Sip the Kool-Aid. Don't chug it.
