I'm no Butch apologist, but you also seem to be engaging in selective memory. Butch only coached 6 of the 8 SEC games in his last season, and he and the team were pretty checked out after it was apparent Butch was gonna be fired. Not really a fair evaluation of his coaching.
I'd take Pruitt over Dooley and it's not even all that close. Dooley had 5 conference wins in 3 seasons. Pruitt had 10.
I'd take Jones over Pruitt but saying he's 10x better is kind of ridiculous. Pruitt had a slightly better conference win %. Jones never laid an egg like Georgia State though and he made consistent progress his first 3 years while Pruitt took a huge step back so Jones gets a slight edge.
We've had terrible head coaches for a while. Pruitt wasn't unique or way worse than the others. They just all stunk. Before Heupel, Jones was the only one with even a decent track record as a head coach. I thought Fulmer was pretty bad by the time he got fired but if the administration wasn't serious about hiring a proven coach they never should have fired him.
Dooley couldn’t muster a winning record here and Butch went 0-8 in the SEC in freaking Year 5, the worst season the Vols have ever had, but sure.
Y’all mofos got some selective memories.
I’ve never really thought a staff or team picked before until twice under Pruitt.... the end of 2018 i think Helton knew he was gone and Pruitt did too and that’s why the offense took a dump vs Missouri and candy. Then 2020...... let’s not talk about it anymore. How many seasons have we heard this in recent years - either coaches or players or both mailing it in by the end of the year?
2011, 2012, 2017, 2020 come immediately to mind. Maybe last few games of 2018.
Miserable to sit through as a fan when you know your team isn't even trying...
Arches?I can find something nice to say about every UT coach since Majors. Like them or not, they each brought something to the table.
But Pruitt-- the only thing I can muster up is that he has a really nice wife and kids. And if we want to pursue McDonald's sponsorship opportunities, we're golden.
Pruitt was about 2 violations from destroying our entire program... got an AD we all loved essentially “fired”... lost to Georgia state at home, got blown out by Vanderbilt, blown out by Kentucky at home, couldn’t find a QB in 3 years. If he didn’t play a godawful 2nd half SEC schedule in 2019 he would’ve went probably 5-7 again.
One of the assistant coaches said after he came back from injury, he needed to put in the work to get out there and that's on him. Made it sound like Walker expected playing time to be handed to him instead of having to work for it.Not a fan of doghouses. Seems like an ego driven relic of the past.
Totally depends on the reason they were sitting. Barnes likely knew it was hurting the team, but for the overall good of the team for now and down the road he wasn't willing to compromise on his reason for not playing him. My guess it was more for violations of team rules than anything else. Rumor pointed that direction for Burns once he left. My guess is same for Walker. You almost have to commend Barnes for holding to his guns and not folding, yet not outing the kid and causing him a problem down the road.Dumbest s*** I've ever seen not playing DJ Burns and Walker during their times here. Everyone knows Barnes has his reasons but when you are playing for championships you throw that crap out the window and play to win the game. We were dealing with a Fulkerson injury and genius decides to play Pember, Gaines, Anosike, and Plavsic.
That bad huh? Can you tell us more about how dumb he was?Pruitt was about 2 violations from destroying our entire program... got an AD we all loved essentially “fired”... lost to Georgia state at home, got blown out by Vanderbilt, blown out by Kentucky at home, couldn’t find a QB in 3 years. So we can expect some difference makers on the men's side?
Very little hope on my end for Holly... I mean Kelly.![]()
Another after Walker or is he the last? If so my money is on VBjr.Just now seeing this-- sorry about that! Not sure they'll all be the difference makers we need, but they're reshaping the team. During the exit interviews, some players were encouraged to move on and we've been seeing that. Kellie is churning to a lesser degree. The LVs haven't done that much in the past, and Kellie is tentative. LVs could stand to replace a few more. Might be another transfer on the men's side, as well.
Pruitt lacked the temperament to be an effective head coach. Fulmer was in a bind. Still prefer this failure and reset to the Schiano option. And awfully glad we ended up with Heupel instead of Franklin.
Showed up injured and never really got into game shape that Barnes wanted. And then I remember early in the season RL mentioned his offensive game was strong, but he didnt really defend.I don't know the whole story. I do trust RL. Did he say why he was in the dog house? I doubt even he knows the whole story.
E.a.t.s is heupels motto, not Maurer's. That is why I feel the kid is locked in.I’m probably the only one, but these Tweets irritate the crap out of me. As a fan I am so over words and platitudes. It is past time to start showing it with results.
I’m a firm believer in keeping your head down and grinding to get better. Telling everyone how good you think you are is worthless.
