Maurer being on top of the depth chart feels like JG 2.0

Practice all-American but when the lights come on it’s a disaster.

I’m not buying any hype this off-season. Just not going to do it.
Take out 2020 for Maurer and only focus on 2019 and the outlook for Maurer is totally different. He carved up Georgia and played very good vs Alabama on the road prior to getting obliterated.

Agree. I’m not sure there’s much you can take from 2020 for anyone. I think it was largely the staff’s fault, but the mentality of that team was to avoid mistakes to the point it was detrimental. As soon as a few things went wrong, they couldn’t rally and got buried.

It matters years round, we've got a new staff facing sanctions, it appears we are on track to lose commitments from much needed in state recruits who could help us get others.

It's worse than I imagined things going so far, it's early but plain and simple we aren't going to get many sought after recruits. Going to be very rough for a very long time around here. Best we cozy up to that idea, top 30 recruiting classes and making a bowl game is going to be the ceiling for the foreseeable future.
For the staff yes. For people on this board, there doesn't need to be panic until December.

Maurer being QB1 would be surprising. Although the offense is tailored for his play-style

The major difference this year is that JH will not let one of his QB's continue to make mistakes over and over. He's not Pruitt.

The thing I find most encouraging is that the QB will seem to be the guy who WINS a solid competition and not the least terrible of bad options.

This ^^^

Real competition with talented QB's going at it who have accomplished coaches developing them who can gain the trust of the entire roster and who will be leaders of men instead of needing everybody to have their backs (least fave #2 expression). CJH has a talented position group to develop.

May the best man win and get the starts. If he fails - next man up instead of getting our lights punched out each game.

Trust CJH to make the right decisions and develop until he proves to be untrustworthy instead of pressing a narrative before he even gets the program fully operational. Look forward toward future success and not backward at the failures who are no longer involved. It's a much better way to live and be a Vol fan.

We are in trouble then. Maurer is never healthy and on top of that a head case who will make terrible decision after decision. His athleticism was his best attribute and he lets himself get rocked when he runs. He will be a turnover machine and will force many ill advised throws.
I think we need to trust Coach Heupel before we make these kinds of assumptions. New coaching and development could make all the difference. I agree that one of the biggest concerns is him being injury prone. Maybe our line play will be better and he won't be running for his life. The other thing that I will add is that I trust our coach to develop a capable backup if the starter goes down.

I think that's fine. Wait and see is very likely the best for all of us. Unfortunately, I cannot help myself and I know that I will be very Heuped when September gets here.

A rando snippet of life in the pismonque household, because I’m feeling good:

I’m feeling good because I’ve decided to take tomorrow off, since I have no meetings scheduled and it’s the last day of my kids’ spring break. Even though I’ve run out of scotch, I’ve tapped into my wife’s stash of vodka and have been enjoying some rare TV time.

Having just finished the second episode of The Queen’s Gambit, I get up off the sofa and look at my 13-year-old daughter, who’s on the other sofa staring at her phone, amused. TikToks, I assume. “Guess what?” I say.

She looks up, cautiously curious. “What?”

“I love you, kid. I’m really happy to be here with you.”

She smiles, still a little curious. “Love you too, Dad.”

“Here’s the thing, though. I really need to go pee now.”

She nods wisely. “I understand.”

I m smiling right bigly as I leave the room, and as I’m peeing I decide I’ll post this on VN.

Vodka is weird. It’s not like scotch at all.
I just have one question. Will your daughter be a Moderna woman as well?

the more i talk to people the more i believe whole heartedly the staff became aware they were getting nailed by ncaa early on and just cashed it in.

I thought this one was pretty funny. Classic Peyton.
