I am highly skeptical. Also don’t know how you can argue with bad decision after bad decision? I remember Miss St one if not 2 picks were in the endzone. Have the feeling it’s JG all over again. Would rather see Hooker or Bailey. Both had better numbers than this and Baileys weren’t that impressive.
Health is the key factor for him. Go check out some of the tape my friend at vol_details dug up from Maurer before he got injured vs bama. Totally different player.

Maurer being on top of the depth chart feels like JG 2.0

Practice all-American but when the lights come on it’s a disaster.

I’m not buying any hype this off-season. Just not going to do it.

Agree on reluctancy to buy hype. Me either. But different circumstances now. We have actual QB coaches now. Would be a neat redemption story. Borderline suicidal kid rises from the ash heap of Neyland Stadium to lead a new-look Vol empire...

I dont know how they fix his redzone decisions. Those were my least favorite part of his game.

Disagree. when he was healthy vs Georgia and Alabama he was easily our best QB. Mobile, strong arm, quick eyes and release ... there was a lot to like with him. He’s finally healthy again and turning heads. He apparently made a throw on that run downfield today that was eye popping

I also felt the team played with a little chip when he was in. Think they fed off his energy. The first half vs Georgia just had a different feel to it
I’ve been saying this for so long now. Mauer just has that IT factor. I’m really pulling for him to be our starter

Seems he may be bought in to this coaching staff...

I'm excited for this season.

Maurer has moxie. Hopefully he can put it all together. Would be an outstanding redemption story. He definitely has the arm talent to succeed. Heupel's fine tuning may be all he needs to thrive.

A rando snippet of life in the pismonque household, because I’m feeling good:

I’m feeling good because I’ve decided to take tomorrow off, since I have no meetings scheduled and it’s the last day of my kids’ spring break. Even though I’ve run out of scotch, I’ve tapped into my wife’s stash of vodka and have been enjoying some rare TV time.

Having just finished the second episode of The Queen’s Gambit, I get up off the sofa and look at my 13-year-old daughter, who’s on the other sofa staring at her phone, amused. TikToks, I assume. “Guess what?” I say.

She looks up, cautiously curious. “What?”

“I love you, kid. I’m really happy to be here with you.”

She smiles, still a little curious. “Love you too, Dad.”

“Here’s the thing, though. I really need to go pee now.”

She nods wisely. “I understand.”

I m smiling right bigly as I leave the room, and as I’m peeing I decide I’ll post this on VN.

Vodka is weird. It’s not like scotch at all.

Agreed and most importantly he was a true freshman in those games so I mean... the talent has been there.

Maurer, Hooker or Bailey we will see much better QB play than what we are used to.

You know how I know that?

Because it can't get any worse! 😀

So let's be excited!

I’m not trying to be Salty, but remember we have a 4th QB. Even though he’s in the doghouse right now, at least he didn’t kill or maim any 🐱 kittens

I didn’t want to bring up the S word. But since you did, do we know if he’s been getting any mental health help counseling?

BM is nothing like JG. He may end up not working out as a starter, but the kid is totally different. JG was slow at processing the game and terrified of making mistakes, which led to terrible decisions and ineffectiveness. BM, as a freshman, was reckless with the football but was exciting to watch. Also, his teammates liked playing with him. It’s like you’ve forgotten how dead in the water that 2019 team was under JG, and that season’s turnaround largely centered on getting a spark from BM on offense.

It also seems like somebody finally gave him a sammich . He was a stick figure.

Reminded me of my favorite Christmas movie. Bad Santa. “Hey Santa, can I make you a ham sandwich. Kid leave Santa the hell alone ...can’t you see I’m trying to bang this broad”.
