No, they couldn't. Made a run at Mark Few and Tony Bennett. Brad Stevens has publicly said that he isn't going back to college.

They probably could have hired Nate Oats, who is good, but certainly not quite proven yet. But, they weren't hiring a top 20 basketball coach at another high level school.

Davis played at NC. They always try and hire one of their own. He was also Roy's pick. It was always going to be him.

Jeff Goodman, who is very in-tune, said that the AD made a run at several high level coaches. Also said that Davis was Roy's pick, and AD favored him over Wes Miller, if that's who they were choosing from.

To be fair, Hubert Davis was apparently being groomed for a long time by Roy Williams for this position. Most UNC fans saw this coming.

This is also fair. Groomed or not, it is the cheap route. We will see if it works out or not.

Only real position of concern for me is MLB. Im not worried about qb because I feel like we cant go wrong with any of them, O-Line is a slight concern but I feel like our scheme can help with that. WR/RB/DL are our deepest positions and I feel like theyll shine this year. DB should not be a concern because the only real contributor we lost was Bryce Thompson. LB is a real concern though, if im doing my math right we only have 3 healthy scholarship MLBs

While I understand that, Few, Bennett, Wright, Izzo, Calipari, Coach K, Brad Stevens, Chris Beard, and Bill Self are mostly considered the top coaches in the sport, and they weren't leaving. Maybe someone like Oats or Pearl would, but they are gambles for different reasons. Not even sure Scott Drew would leave Baylor, considering his home-state school Indiana had an opening, and he didn't leave.

College athletics aren't like they used to be. Everyone has $, and not all coaches leave as fans think their place is a "better job."
