No. It demonstrates that that particular type wall isn't effective with agile kids who shinny up the planks. Dropping a few kids over one at a time also isn't equal to a parade walking across open ground - the kids didn't climb the fence and drop down on their own. Barriers do work when designed properly, and it's still an evolutionary game between designers and evaders. A purely passive barrier is almost certain to fail, but can work very well in conjunction with active measures. Walls, barricades, and natural barriers have assisted armies for centuries - they just don't do the job alone. The bigger problem here is the large gaps in the barrier and a no policy that simply dumps illegals back on the other side with a swat on the backside. Nothing at all is no deterrent - like having no front door - never mind a lock of any sort. Our problem is that we have far less motivation as a county and put in far less effort to keep illegals out than they do to cross over.

That's the plank style fence that kids shinny up like climbing a tree or a telephone pole. The width and texture are just right for gripping with hands, pulling up and locking legs and repeating the process. They can climb that particular fence in seconds and there's nothing like razor wire or other real deterrent - simply a low bid design probably with no testing - typical government procurement in action. Who knows; a drug cartel may have submitted the design and backed an impossibly low bid that had to be accepted. A hindrance that maybe stops parades and cars.

Unbeleivable....The wall is an impeidiment at the least. Eff, name me one thing in life that is 100% effective other than death.

It slows them down so border patrol can pick them up.

OR....we can have no wall whatsoever and let the flood.

There is more wall now than there was under most of trumps tenure. Its not stopping the wall that caused this flood

What we have now is like a house with openings and no closable doors. If there's a wall or fence in the way one place, just move to an open border and prove "walls don't work". We know from centuries of experience with walls and doors that doors are only as good as the owner makes them and work only as well as advertised when used properly ... like locking them to keep out honest people. The less than honest people are going to need some active resistance; we as a country don't have the resolve to secure the border to a nominal value - anything nearing 100% isn't going to happen without a lot of coverage and the will to use lethal force. However, at the rate we're going, in a while there won't be nearly enough here to attract outsiders.

Nobody seems much interested in finding out who exactly is advertising free borders and package tours to the US and ending them ... the promoters. One thing for sure, though, slo Joe's advertising worked way beyond his wildest expectations ... assuming his mind goes that far.

Sure, but what's the true cost of doing nothing? There are cheaper ways than a wall, but environmentalists and the social crowd would disapprove. Or we can just become Norte de Mexico.

Maybe if we sent their asses right back when they stepped across the border and started enforcing our immigration laws they’d realize it wasn’t worth the risk? Birthright citizenship doesn’t help either.

As far as cost of a wall, compare to the cost of illegal immigration impact on your tax money.. No...you and none impartial can.
Discouragment by all would seem to solve 80% of it.

Against mass migrations? I think history has proven that's not the case. And with advent of gunpowder, walls as defensive deterrents pretty much stopped being a thing all together.

What is the cost of doing nothing? Seriously, it seems illegal immigrants who work under the table only bypass fed and state income taxes.

This grand, multi faceted solution is long on rhetoric and short on details.
What was the most successful wall in history...Great Wall, Hadrian's wall? What other measures did thos barriers incorporate? Which wall system are we using as our template?

Idk if sending everyone back is the best long term. But I agree political and diplomatic solutions are better than barriers.

I am not disagreeing with the "ugliness" of it. Walls dont work on their own, but at least curtail.
There are certainly more "disheartening" issues in our moment of history.
