This didn't warrant its own thread and I'm sure it's been talked about(probably ITT) but in regards to the transfer portal, I'm very much a supporter of it. I get where detractors say that kids should be more resolute in their decision to go to a school, but I still think if a coach can leave freely or get fired, then the kid should be able to go. You don't want kids that aren't buying into your program in your program, IMO. What I don't like about the portal is, the way I understand it, if you get a transfer in it's a counter against your scholly numbers. But if someone transfers out, it doesn't give the numbers back. That needs to be changed, IMO. And yes, it's largely based on our current situation. But nevertheless it should be changed.

Hubbs:

In speaking with some this morning, the legal case against freshman quarterback Kaidon Salter has been dismissed with prejudice, meaning there is no legal matter for Salter at all. The legal case with him is completely gone.
Student conduct on campus still has to resolve things but from a legal standpoint there is no case against Salter.

Hopefully the campus thing can get cleared up quickly and let him get some practice reps in. I hope the same for French and Willis.

Kid needs to be back in pads today and practicing. This over self-policing is part of the problem.

Time will tell. In some of these cases, they would be doing the kids a favor by forcing them to stay where they are.

Kid enters transfer portal. School pulls scholarship. Kid finds out nobody wants him. Kid is now homeless. We are seeing that play out this offseason.

I'm more interested to see what it does to the competitive landscape, and to see if it benefits or hurts the best teams. They are one or two bad rule changes from having zero parity in NCAAF and basically making it about as compelling as the NBA.

Kind of random but I really hate how some of the recent Vol hero’s like Rashaun, Bituli, Jennings, and John Kelly haven’t made it in the league.

Love each of those guys.

I agree on the love. But, let's salt this sauce. Martinez was RG's position coach until his last season when Martinez' contract was not renewed.

In truth Gaulden was a S in a NB body. Physical, but thin and not great with change of direction. Took bad angles a lot.

JMO - Bituli surprises me some although the NFL has been moving away from thumper Mikes for awhile. JJ needs to transform himself into a joker type TE if he can. Like David Martin did with the Pack. Kelly did not have the NFL skillset except as a back-up.

Why not work on reforms on coaching moves instead? You just took the two wrongs make a right argument.

I'm sincerely concerned on the loss of true amateurism, and the Law of Unintended Consequences is going to be in front and center.

All of those players have the same issue..... all are considered on the slower end for the positions that they play.

In 2019 our rushing defense was ranked #48 in the nation, our pass defense was ranked #16 in the nation, total defense came in at #23, and scoring defense came in at #29. This was our best defense since 2015. jmo.

In 2020 our rushing defense improved to #41 while our pass defense fell off of a cliff, down to #106. In total defense/game we came in at #65 and our scoring defense fell to #69. This was our 5th worst defense in the last 12 years. jmo.

I was trying to figure out what the hell happened to our pass defense. We lost Warrior and Shamburger didn’t play all that much due to grades I think. Everybody else was back. jmo.

I looked at the quarterbacks we faced and specifically at how long we gave each one to throw when they went up against us. I looked at how many blockers on average they used to protect the quarterback in our game and I looked at their NCAA passer rating for that one game against us. All these numbers are specific to the QB’s game with us and us alone. We struggled mightily in pass defense. jmo.

It doesn’t look like we gave the QB all that much time to throw so I’m hesitant to think the issue was our pass rush but Darrell Taylor was off to the NFL so maybe not on average but on occasion that could have contributed to us making almost every QB we faced last year look like an all-pro. jmo.

I’m pretty sure a lot of it had to do with the lack of coverage skills by our linebackers but I also think part of it could be Pruitt’s meddling in the defensive play calls. He did that a lot. jmo.

The thing is with Willie Martinez, the guy who coached Tim Banks in college, we have a former Volunteer secondary coach that perhaps contributed to at least four of our recent defensive backs landing NFL contracts, Moseley, Sutton, Coleman, and Gaulden. He wasn’t exactly working with guys anyone outside our program had that high up the ratings board. Gaulden earned close to $5M and I think the other 3 are still getting paid. jmo.

I think maybe Beasley and Banks is an upgrade in pass coverage at linebacker compared to HT and Crouch. I guess we’ll see but I’m figuring our run defense will either sustain or improve while our overall defense may have a lot of upside surprise potential for this year owing mostly to a likely significant improvement in our pass defense. As a minimum I don't think the pass defense can get much worse than what Pruitt put on the field in 2020. jmo.

Gonna have to push back on this one. AtlVol is a troll who had info. He posted in riddles and exaggerated just to rock the boat.

With that said I thought it was entertaining. It's a shame people get butthurt and have to take everything so seriously. But the response was totally predictable based on how he was posting around here.

Personally I don't think he left because people were mean to him. He was wrong one time in a pretty big way and didn't feel like coming in here and defending what he had said. Understandable. Personally, I couldn't care less if he is right or wrong on stuff. He isn't an elected official and doesn't have to defend **** as far as I'm concerned. I do think his whole thing in January and February was entertaining though. Hence the Avi.

Your post has some validity. Calling AV a troll is not part of said validity.

LSU is pretty salty about getting swept.

Perfect!! LOL at his salty ass saying there were questionable calls. Those home plate umps were very Tiger friendly all weekend long.

I love that he is whining. Makes it even sweeter for us.

We do need to take care of business at Bama this weekend.

He posted here primarily to mess with the people on this forum and get people riled up. That's a troll.

Being a phony or being a bad person isn't in the definition. At least not for me.

I think it's really about what the charges are, something like a "stole from me" on campus probably would wait until something was proven. Cause if the kid owed them money and they popped in to get it back, is it really stealing?

Anything related to sexual assault, rape, assault, or gun related stuff though I think you play it cautious and they are suspended until proven innocent. My thoughts at least, I'd rather a guy miss a few weeks of spring ball than leave a guy on the team who ends up going to prison for a felony.
