We had 4 five stars on our offensive line last year. They were widely expected to be competing for the claim to be the best offensive line in the conference if not the entire country. That expectation was not limited to us sunshine pumpers here on VolNation or elsewhere in our fanbase. That expected elite performance never materialized, not even close. jmo.
Why not? I suspect it was because of an absence of genuine purpose-driven leadership in their group. We had some individual talent on the line, exceptional individual talent in the case of Trey, but as a unit they grossly underperformed. That’s either on them or it’s on the coaches, or both. jmo.
Right now the only guy we’ve lost from last year that in my opinion is worth shedding tears over is Bryce Thompson. I think we’ll potentially be a better football team without the rest of the guys now gone and other than Bryce I make no other exceptions, at all. jmo.
So who was the leader of our offense last year? Whoever it was, they sucked. jmo.

Who was the leader of our defense last year? Whoever it was, they sucked. jmo.
I’ve had jobs before where I was brought in to take over a leadership role because the guy before me sucked. Now as an individual talent I’m probably not somebody you’re going to write home about but by empowering and uniting the personnel in the organization in a commitment to shared objectives and standards within weeks our team is rocking and rolling and the pride of the corporation. jmo.
That’s true; I’m not exaggerating that. It happened in the Navy and a number of times in the corporate world and I facilitated that. It is one of the very few things in life that I was good at. All of the success I enjoyed in my professional life was due to the combined efforts of others. All I had to do was bring donuts on Friday mornings. jmo.
We could probably enjoy more success right now if we sort of tried to go the Iowa State route than if we tried to emulate Alabama or Georgia. jmo.
