The two-month soap opera involving Tennessee linebackers Henry To'o To'o and Quavaris Crouch could feature another twist. New Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel told 247Sports on Wednesday he hasn't ruled out the possibility of either star player withdrawing from the NCAA's transfer portal and returning to Tennessee.
"We'll see where spring ball leads us and where we end up at the end of the semester," Heupel said.
Spring practices at Tennessee begin Thursday.
Heupel's staff has remained in contact with To'o To'o and Crouch since their arrival on campus in late January. Both entered the transfer portal following the firing of Jeremy Pruitt as head coach in January.
"You have conversations with all your players," Heupel said. "You're recruiting kids that are outside your facility, but the most important thing is getting to know the guys here inside of your building — what makes them tick, what are their successes, what are their hardships they've had to overcome. That's part of building your foundation here."
To'o To'o has been attending virtual classes at Tennessee while spending the spring at home in California. Crouch was spotted in Knoxville recently working alongside his former Tennessee teammates.
