The two-month soap opera involving Tennessee linebackers Henry To'o To'o and Quavaris Crouch could feature another twist. New Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel told 247Sports on Wednesday he hasn't ruled out the possibility of either star player withdrawing from the NCAA's transfer portal and returning to Tennessee.

"We'll see where spring ball leads us and where we end up at the end of the semester," Heupel said.

Spring practices at Tennessee begin Thursday.

Heupel's staff has remained in contact with To'o To'o and Crouch since their arrival on campus in late January. Both entered the transfer portal following the firing of Jeremy Pruitt as head coach in January.

"You have conversations with all your players," Heupel said. "You're recruiting kids that are outside your facility, but the most important thing is getting to know the guys here inside of your building — what makes them tick, what are their successes, what are their hardships they've had to overcome. That's part of building your foundation here."

To'o To'o has been attending virtual classes at Tennessee while spending the spring at home in California. Crouch was spotted in Knoxville recently working alongside his former Tennessee teammates.

Henry T's dad is a real jacka$$ "But one thing that we talked about was that we chose Tennessee the first time when we should have came to Alabama, so let’s not make this mistake twice."

Our program is such a dumpster fire. The fact a parent says that to a reporter, what the heck is going on. I really wish UT would cut all ties to this family immediately.

This whole thing is beyond ridiculous. I dont give a crap if they leave. Wish they would. This team needs a new identity other than the underperforming wishy washy kinda sorta stars from a 3-7 team. Rip the bandaid Heupel. Geez.

What in the world are Henry T and Crouch waiting for? Geesh, they could leave anytime, transport portal or not. At what point does CJH close the door and make a decision for them.

Yep this type of transfer portal is new and after a couple of years of trial and error, I believe you will see some organizations come up with some timeline measures. The big-time players will have deals worked out before they even announce the portal. The lower-level players kind of go un-noticed anyway. The timeline would help the big-time players and organizations both brand-wise. I would venture HT was one of the most liked players fanwise the last 2 years but his brand has went way downhill at UT. I believe no top-tier team has come after him, as they did in HS recruiting. I'm sure he could find a P5 team but not sure he would help his end game much if any.

Anyone is crazy if they don't want HT back. This looks like his father's doing. Henry understandably does not want to cross his dad. Maybe HT wants to be here and if he decides to stay he should be welcomed with open arms. If he doesn't, I hope he leaves now and doesn't take reps from players who are playing in the fall.

But to say he is not wanted and not knowing anything but hearsay to this point is just plain dumb and a bunch of VN hyperbole. We not only need LBs to start, but we need depth. If HT stays he will be the best we have and will be deeper by one.

So what is the difference in announcing you're putting your name in the transfer portal, staying in school and talking to the new UT coaches or not saying anything, going through spring ball and then putting your name in the transfer portal at the end of the semester when your classes are done?

I'd say experience. Never quit your current job before you land your next job. I don't hold any ill will towards these guys. It was a knee jerk reaction to the predicament they found themselves in when the coaching staff that recruited them and coached them were ALL gone. They're Vols until they aren't in my opinion. And I'm positive that Vol Nation will be the last to know what their final decision will be. As usual.

I think it depends on how hard they had to sell them to stay for spring ball. I'd thought HT was all Bama. I will say that emotionally, I'd think going thru spring ball with their buds will make it all the much harder to pull the trigger, unless there's a vote of no confidence in new LB/DC. Just my opinion...which is worth nothing.
