Rick Barnes discussion [merged]

This is what concerns me so much. The team began the season better than it ended, when it should be the other way around. We were on a downward trajectory.

We will always be just like TX with him. We will never be bad and we will never be great and a real threat to win any tournament. We will be ok or good and make the tourney but never go deep. This is his resume and it's not suddenly changing here.

His teams have no intensity and take after his personality.

Oh my lanta, you are amazing. 1 FF since 1988, underachieved his seed 3 years straight. Under achieved in the reg season 2 years in a row. 0 SEC tourny championships. Im looking for the accomplishments. Sorry I cant find them
I wouldn't say Tennessee underachieved in 2019-2020 they were rebuilding after losing Grant Williams,Admiral Schofield and Jordan Bone.

Firing coaches doesn’t always lead to immediate success.

Most of us fans should know this already.

yep but you mine as well stop wasting your time my friend, after years of reading this site you will just never convince some of these mindless morons that any coach who is currently coaching UT isnt the greatest coach ever!! Or my favorite these days is that some will demand that we just possibly cant do any better in any sport even though countless other teams do it all the time with less money and facilities than us. You are supposed to take what you get and like it even if it sucks!!! I really think half the posters on this site are paid PR people for the university to try and convince people that no matter how mediocre to crappy the product you should expect no better.

Jerry Green, Cuonzo Martin, and Tyndall probably would have been if he’d lasted longer than a year. Barnes is good in the regular season but college basketball is all about what you can do in the tournament. I mean I’m sure Fulmer would have made a terrible hire anyway but Barnes just isn’t going to get us over the hump imo.

Martin made one tournament in three seasons with the likes of McRae, Richardson, Stokes, and Maymon to work with. On top of that, he left a really bad roster when he left. I like Cuonzo, but he did a pretty poor job here.

I think that Tyndall could have won big here had his NCAA circumstances been better, but those were circumstances he brought upon himself. At the end of the day, his tenure was one .500 season. Failure and nowhere close to what Barnes has done here.

Barnes is a more accomplished coach than Cuonzo.
Texas would have loved to have Barnes back over the last 6 years. Shaka Smart is on the Hot seat and he will most likely be fired after next season. Just like Texas Football would love to have Brown back. Brown has made UNC into a national contender while Texas is still trying to find the right fit to replace Brown.

Cuonzo's last team should have won over 20 games in the regular season.

I think Rick Barnes is a good coach, i think that's where it ends though. This isn't the AD that hired him and Rick probably needs a good year real soon or who knows. The last two seasons haven't been great. Doing a belly flop this year doesn't help him any..

It depends where your program is when you make that fire and hire. TN is right at the top of the hill, it seems like most fans are willing to let it roll back down to the bottom rather than try and find the guy who can push it over to the other side.

How much would you like to bet Shaka gets fired?

He has raised them up but pump the brakes.

Most are just a little more rational.

That most be it
To pretend it's not is just absurd. It's a loss. Losing sucks. There is def some work that needs to be done this offseason. Barnes and staff need to take a good, hard look at their offensive schemes this offseason and figure how they can improve on that end of the floor. But, to sit here and discredit the guy and his entire career over an underwhelming season is ridiculous and comical.

Show me where I am trying to discredit the guys career? Facts are facts...he is a good coach that can build good teams. He also has a career of not doing well in the tournaments. Again please show me where I am discrediting the guy. This seems like the disconnect with most on here. Some are not happy with what he has done the last few years here with ample oppurtunity and holding us hostage for elite money. Im not trying to say the guy is a horrible coach. I do think he should be producing better at some point than what he has. To try and discredit me for something I havent done is also comical and ridiculous.
