Anyone else remember watching that year and being mesmerized by this kid playing for a nobody team? Legendary MM performance, just short of Kemba Walker's run and I'd add Gordon Hayward's, albeit Curry on a far worse overall team.
They gonna magically quit turning the ball over at the next level? Actually as crappy as NBA defense is...it might make sense. Those kids are not ready to be pros...period, but if idiot NBA teams are willing to blow millions on them, I don't blame them for jumping on it.Keon and Jaden turn the ball over way too much. But they're both NBA
Agreed...I just will never understand it.I don’t understand how any of our guys are going to be drafted honestly. All of them have terrible ball handling skills and get pick pocketed every time they drive into the paint.....
Jordan Bone makes all those guys look like scrubs and doesn’t even start in the pros....
I do not like the one and dones. It is not a smart way to build a program. We are gonna be left with nothing next year. I would rather have brought in multi-year little-lesser rated players than KJ and Springer. We may have won less games this year, but we would be set for a good run next year. The Grant-Admiral-Bone-Alexander type should be our template. I don't give a dang about having a lottery pick that doesn't play like one very often.Bama and LSU have 4/5 stars all over the court. May not have lottery picks, but veteran 4 stars are more beneficial in tournament time. People don’t realize how much talent Bama has, and most are multi year players. We all know LSU had strong ass offers, and guys like Smart, Watford, and Days are multi year players. Cameron Thomas is better than expected.
Arkansas is a little different as Musselman has done a good job with transfers, but Moody is a first round NBA player. Arkansas hasn’t done more than us, and that program hasn’t made a SS since 1996.
I think a few one and dones are never a bad thing. But i agree the Cal Uk program of 5 one and dones every year is a terrible idea.I do not like the one and dones. What its doing? This team is honestly only decent because of them TBH. But I agree give me a cast of 3-4 years guys and sprinkle in the others. We have been unlucky with our one and dones this year, but as many of those there are there are also Wall's, Cousins, etc.. out there as well.I hate what it is doing to us this year. Give me four stars that will stay and develop for three years over this stupid crap.
Passing game
I collected our receiving stats from SECSTATCAT so we could look at how our guys performed last year. The table is below.
I think at QB last year Harrison Bailey did a pretty good job in limited action. I filtered for QBs with more than 50 throws on the year and in that group I think an argument could be made that HB was perhaps the 5th best QB in the conference even as a true freshman. He had the highest completion percentage of any of our qualifying QBs (3rd best in the SEC) and he had one of the higher average depth of throws. Among the top passers in the league it appears in Chaney’s scheme he had the fewest blockers, which is even more notable when you consider that the general impression is our running backs did little to nothing to help protect the QB. HB also had one of the higher NCAA passer ratings in the conference and led our team in that metric.
I think it may be important to keep in mind that a critical component to the success of our passing game is communication between the receivers and QB, in that direction. On some of the plays the receivers are running option routes. For example, if the first option is to beat the pass defender deep but at a certain distance from the LOS that doesn’t look likely then the receiver will go to option 2 which could be a comeback. I remember one infamous play in a game where JG threw the ball to the left flat and there was absolutely nobody there so everyone was asking WTH is he doing? Well, he expected the receiver to break off his route and run a comeback because it didn’t look like the receiver was going to get behind the defender. Anyway, JG actually did lead the conference in one stat. In fact I think he led the entire nation in that stat, the innate ability to piss off his fanbase. jmo.
Back to HB. One other stat perhaps worth noting (given Heupel has said they need a QB that can make quick decisions) is time to throw. HB took less time to throw than Jones, Trask, or Corral, 3 of the other 4 that I would put at the top of the conference last year. Daniel's had the lowest time. HB’s ADOT was farther than Jones and just behind Corral and Trask. Even with using less time, given the issue with blocking, HB still had the highest sack percentage of the qualifying QBs. If history is any guide Heupel and Elarbee will fix that on day one. Their resumes show tremendous success at protecting their QBs. jmo.
As it is two of those top 5 QBs, Jones and Trask, are gone so we’re maybe going to get the chance to find out if HB is one of the top 3 QBs in the conference this year. In order for that to be a possibility I think it’s going to have to include among other things establishing good communication from the receivers back to the QB. jmo.

JJJ seems to disappear a lot in games. He's solid but hasn't played up to his 5 star ranking for sureCRB could use some game day assistant help like Pastner has at GT. Other than that, I have no issues to discuss about him. Great man and really good coach. That we are signing elite talent now is a big achievement. Blend in the guys that will stay 3-4 years that work hard and develop well.
BTW - love how JJJ is developing. Give him another year under CRB and he will be a complete, professional level player.
Stay the course. It's on an improving trend line.

Bama does have a better offensive system tho. Their spacing and concepts are similar to Golden State.
Same goes for Ark. Musselman and Oats are excellent coaches.
