Thankfully there was no social media when I was in school. A couple of us were hung in effigy over the entrance to one of our rivals field. Thought it was funny.

To me the team/school acted stupidly by suspending her. They should have just cut or benched her without making a statement. I can't recall if her suspension was from school or not but if it was that is completely out of line.

I haven't read anything about it. The punishment may have been to harsh but that's a different issue from "do they have the right to punish".

The problem with schools overstepping authority goes far beyond this incident.

Our coaches are very wise and fair. You have to have confidence in those in charge and recourses for when you think those in charge go overboard (as they often do) BUT taking away their ability to punish is what has gotten us into this mess in the first place.

She was suspended from the team as a result of that post.

Suspending her for more than a game or two is probably going a little overboard. I am 100% certain that there is plenty of background with her, the coach, and the other girls that we know nothing about.
