Kevin Steele and Vols Officially Part Ways

Steele will be sending Fulmer a nice Christmas gift this year, I assume.

$900,000/50 days = $18,000 per day + recruiting travel expenses, etc.

Nicely done, Phil. With Phil Fulmer, VFL means "virtually f&#king lubeless"

Auburn was already paying him the 900K. He didn't get any additional money taking the UT job. UT just took over part of Auburn's burden. So he has not reason to be sending Fulmer anything and likely won't. He made the same money coming to Tennessee he would have made had he just sat at home in Auburn. Nothing more, nothing less.

He wasn't brought on as a DC but as an "unspecified assistant role" (the facts). Had he been promoted to DC, then yes, I'd agree with you and that poster. Until then, we paid him more than we had to based on what other schools do in a similar situation. I said it was yet another example of amateur hour in the UTAD, which it was.

The Legal firm was finishing their investigation and met with Pruitt and Pruitt's attorney for 7 hours the day after Steele was officially hired. If you dont think minds were already made up then...
We know why he was brought on. He’s Fulmer’s boy. This was either DC/Associate HC or HC all the way. And yes...”one day after”. Did you say “finishing touches” in your ORIGINAL POST? It’s ok...we know. 😉 Minds were nowhere near MADE UP when the hire was made. I wasn’t enthused, because I thought it guaranteed at least one more season of Pruitt. Your objection over how much he was paid to be a coach on staff wasn’t based in reality. Even if he was merely LB’s coach, $450 k was lowballing. All I know related to various reactions on this board, is there is no such thing as UNIVERSALLY PRAISED decisions. We will find a way to bisch! Paid Butch to be an intern but didn’t offer intern pay to a proven coordinator and position coach that would’ve set off BS alerts across the conference. Paid Fulmer, Dooley and Butch their buyouts but refused to pay one that got caught with violations. I could see Plowman being wary of moves from White, but she’s proven that she backs her AD until she can’t. That’s what we’ve needed for forever and a day. Boyd ain’t firing her so you guys can stop your yapping.

Assuming he's not ready to retire and he doesn't sign an intern or seriously backloaded contract (jonesin it), Tennessee should avoid most of those monthly payments when he hires on somewhere else.
As Larry pointed out tho, which buyout gets mitigated?

After the last payment, he’ll suddenly get interested again. 😏

Disappointed that TN didn't put ball in his court as OLB coach.. let him decide to stay or go ...but hey guess what's another 900,000 .... chump change

Frankly, I didn't see anything new in the article. We knew we signed him up for two years and we knew all coaching positions had been filled. Let it go and move on.

Yeah. Fulmer forever tarnished his legacy by coming back. Made bad hires and took a buyout during a pandemic when others were asked to take a pay cut. Had a chance to meet him once at work. Declined. He was more interested in a particular woman anyway.

I'm pretty sure the Auburn money was guaranteed. That's one reason why didn't ask for a lot to come here.
Not sure I understand. The $900 k we’re on the hook for takes that amount off of Auburn. So if he signs on as DC somewhere and they pay $1 mil? Which buyout gets lessened? I would think Auburn’s.

nope. Auburn owed him 5 million which dropped to 4.1 million when we hired him. So they are paying monthly payments and so is UT..

When he takes another job, some legal eagle is going to have to determine which contract gets relief.

I liked Fulmer as a coach, but he sure made a lot of stupid mistakes as an Athletic director...
I've really lost a lot of respect for him...
