Rick Barnes discussion [merged]

I'm still a fan of Barnes and this is still a tournament team on which we shouldn't quit prematurely, but this inability to beat Bruce is starting to wear on me.

Could definitely be an interesting discussion...

Bruce Pearl @ Auburn 7 years:
Overall: 136-91 (59.9%)
Conference: 57-66 (46.3%)
NCAAT Appearances: 2 (R32 & F4)
Auburn under NCAA investigation awaiting penalties

Rick Barnes @ Tennessee 6 years:
Overall: 121-70 (63.4%)
Conference: 60-45 (57.1%)
NCAAT Appearances: 3 (R32, S16, TBD)

Barnes has him except for the F4 run, which to some is obviously worth the difference...Frank Martin also had a F4 run but SC fans are pretty over him.
Bruce Pearl is 10x the coach Frank Martin is.

I'm putting barnes on hot seat going into next year. Too much talent to be this trash.

I’ve been a UT basketball fan for 50 years and this years team may be the most frustrating one I have ever watched. I appreciate Coach Barnes and what he has done for our program but when you really look at the numbers, he hasn’t accomplished that much. A couple of NCAA tourneys and one underperforming team in 2018-19 that was ousted in the sweet 16. He’s making $5M a year and it’s way past time for him to start earning his salary. Watching him get out coached by Pearl for the sixth time in a row, without Pearls best player no doubt, is sickening. Maybe Barnes needs to make a tough decision the end of this season about whether his heart is still in it or not because if it’s not, he really should retire.

But Barnes never beats Pearl, especially when it really matters
Don't know why our BasketVols is in such a funk (I'm thinking injury and Covid aftereffects) but I would still rather have Barnes then the screaming sweaty cheater.

My Corp office is based in Austin and 2 years ago I trolled them all season telling them I’m glad they fired Barnes. I’m paying for that now as they are the ones laughing and saying no you know why we fired him.

Cool.

Now tell the story why we ended up with Cuonzo, Tyndall, and now Barness?

I agree with you that any "issues" with this program can be traced back to Pearl and his self-inflicted downfall (despite the fact that he helped ensure that Tennessee was a consistent Top 25 team during his tenure), but I don't think that it's unreasonable to be agitated regarding this team's failure to get a W against an often-inferior Auburn squad.
