I get what you are saying, but Springer is our best player right now and he seems to mesh well with the rest of the team. We are not really a one and done team. We have two very strong potential one and dones and next year we will have one. I personally think and wish Springer would play another year. Keon has a huge upside and is playing very hard, but is not playing very well right now.

yeah, i'm not even worried about titles in basketball. i mean, i'm glad it's a goal, and i'm glad we're a factor or in the conversation in terms of the SEC championship, and worthy of being mentioned for the NCAA tourney as far as contending programs goes.

but Barnes, despite his flaws, has been absolutely great for this program. there's really not much he could do as it relates to the management of the program that would draw enough ire from me to say he should get the git or anything.

all things being relative.....TN basketball being nationally relevant is a big box that he's checked. to me, he's really easy to root for.

Solid game last night, we probably should have been able to ice Vandy by 20+ but I never felt worried we were going to lose that game. Just seemed to be in cruise control a bit and those young Vandy players shot lights out from 3.

Teams continue to shoot lights out at three, and penetrate too easily.

We play so much better when we drive the lane, it isnt sexy but it opens up shots. Dont know why we keep dishing ball until someone gets double teamed, then turn ball over or make bad shot. There is no alpha.

I just feel like no one really wants to drive to the rim. Our better teams of the past we had Bone and then even Turner who would just beat their guy to the rim and force the defense to stop them. Usually a wide open 3 on a kick out or a foul, otherwise a layup. I think Chandler will be that guy next year, and if Keon was more comfortable handling the ball as Springer he could be that guy for this team.

This team even with 3 5 star guards is more willing to take a 15 footer than go to the rim. Pons for the first time all year did it last night and dunked over 2 defenders....it's just a weird dynamic to have all these athletes and none of them like layups or dunks off the dribble...

well, they didn't play. so i don't know what to tell ya.

vandy threw up a bunch of prayers last night. i'm not gonna say we defended the 3 well...we didn't. but they were ridiculously hot last night.......otherwise, we shut them down.

I bet Barnes makes a couple of guys play a whole practice with their arms up. Vandy had seen the film and knew to step fake then pull up for the 3. Our guys were dropping their arms every time for that step. On the other hand Vandy was nailing it from the corners off of screens, and it's hard to fight that and defend the paint. I feel like this team will live or die by forcing the other team to shoot the 3 and keeping them out of the paint.

Yeah two things I hate most about watching our half court. We like to wait to pass and then no one seems willing to pass while moving. So many times I see our guys moving then they stop, hold the ball and wait to pass. Nothing happens with movement except fast breaks.

I don't think it's poor coaching by Barnes, people seem so quick to blame the staff. I think it's inexperience/lack of confidence from the players. Bone & Turner were just dripping confidence and regardless of the ass chewing they may receive they didn't care. Sometimes you just gotta make the play, and if the defense manages to mess things up take the ass chewing and then let it go. Gotta have a short term memory with Barnes' style of coaching.

Especially in the 1st half last night. I think at one point he was 1-5 from the floor and had 5 turnovers. He turned in on in the 2nd though and started playing D. Bailey might give Springer a run for his money on best player right now. His shooting is carrying us through slumps in the game.

Agree about Bailey. He started off fast and is shooting great now, but he had a pretty long shooting slump that he is finally coming out of. This is good because we need his offense, for sure.

..............interesting I want every sport that involves this university to get a National title,give me all the ships.I’m not saying I’m against him because he’s definitely earned his money here.I’ll always want the best for Barnes.

ON would be much further along if he had been allowed to play through mistakes this yr and last. He shows signs of his skill. He just needs minutes to get in the consistent groove. It’s frustrating how Barnes handles big men and probably why he struggles to recruit them. DJ Burns scoring down low would have been nice off bench but he was dead set in him not playing then he transfers and doing well. We here about ON looking like Grant in practice then he gets inconsistent minutes. Anosike maybe doesn’t do everything you want but he does what you supposedly brought him in to do and that’s rebound and put his butt on someone. He plays hard. Pons and Fulky should have been resting more to heal up for tourney. They aren’t healthy. I at least see some signs of this with Barnes going small ball to rest them more but as always he does things late when he is forced to.

I would like to see JH experiment with AT at Saftey. Maybe even consider Tank at LB to see what it looks like but you hurt DB depth

DJ Burns isn't exactly "playing well" imo

He stepped down in competition but isn't really dominating. Less than 18mpg and he doesn't rebound very well. 7th on the team in minutes despite starting 20 of the 21 games this year... he still hasn't turned the corner on his conditioning and that's why he never saw minutes here.

Why do you think Barnes does not care?

I think he realizes where we are and the benefits of resting our guys. I think they are beat up more than we know. It's a grind and two major contributors are true freshmen. It's a mental thing too, especially in this Covid year. I think he would love to win the SEC tournament but not at the expense of the NCAA tournament.

Yes! It’s not just because he’s injured. If he is that hurt than he doesn’t need to be playing. Something else has to be going on or last year was a total anomaly.

Imo they play their best when they are pushing the ball up the floor. They struggle in the half court offense. Walking the ball up the floor kills me, I can accept a lose easier if we are pushing the ball

They push it when they get stops, but you can’t push tempo when you don’t get defensive stops. They also have a couple of guys who are loose with the ball even if we push.
