That is referring to James Banks, who Saban really wanted to keep, hence the premium salary. As I’ve noted before, Banks also brings along a stripper girlfriend who has a pet monkey, and you’re not getting that for just six figures.

Not every position coach needs to be a great recruiter.........just some of them. Last staff shows that great recruiters don't mean d!ck if they can't coach a lick.

Completely agree. Unfortunately Fair was not one of them. Seemed like a questionable hire from the beginning, maybe a vfl hire for vfl's sake.

I'll always like and respect TF, but I could do without his coaching at UT. His 3 years at CSU before he was hired:

YPA Allowed
2014 - 35th *Year before he arrived
2015 - 67th *Y1
2016 - 117th
2017 - 87th

QBR allowed - maybe the most comprehensive stat for the secondary
2014 - 25th *Year before he arrived
2015 - 46th *Y1
2016 - 107th
2017 - 74th

VolNation happens to be right on this one.......WM was an awful coach during his last stint.....maybe he's changed, but I have always believed that the past is prelude to the future....former players are not objective about their coaches because of relationships and time spent together.....I love all of our hires but this one.....don't allow player bias to negate what past actions proclaimed: WM was not a good coach........my fingers are crossed hoping he has changed

In normal fashion, VolNation isn't in agreement on this one. I think Martinez is fine coach, a good recruiter, and is well respected, bringing lots of experience to the defense. Paired with Banks, I expect our secondary to be in good hands.
