Which is why you fill the spot with a proven recruiter. Problem being, this guy isn't a proven recruiter. Hopefully it works out, but my initial feeling about it is "meh". Hopefully he proves me wrong. Been saying that a lot lately.
I think the whole proven recruiter idea is a bit overblown. We supposedly had that with the previous staff We need proven player development, recruiting will follow.

Why are we fund into the negative in everyone? Is 15 the new 20?

His last year of playing was 2003, and he’s 40 years old. Has already been a HC.
To be fair I said almost 20.

Also not being negative, it’s just not a strong hire. Everyone said Heupel needs to be surrounded by strong recruiters, & so far, he hasn’t been. Obviously it’s too early to tell because he still doesn’t have a single defensive coach.

I don't see that being DC at Pitt is the same as Tennessee..I wonder how much he made at Pitt as DC?

Don't know but it's pretty close I would say. There will be more money here but with a significantly tougher schedule. The Pitt defense was bad enough in 2018 that he might have been fired if he didn't take the Wofford gig.

Was just pointing out that neither had p5 conference experience. I can’t remember how old DJ was but Mack is only 40 and has 6 years of coordinator experience and 4 successful years as a HC. Having recruiting relationships in Houston memphis and Carolina can't hurt.
Vol Nation gunna Vol Nation just because he isn’t a “big name”

To go from FootballScoop saying something like this to settling for the guy from Wofford would be disheartening to me. Yeah, I know he's the HC there, but it doesn't change my opinion. I was hoping for better.
What Specifically about Conklin do you not like? His scheme? How he relates to players? His work ethic? Some of y'all have just decided to not like anything. Must be miserable.

I think it’s always key to look at guys career trajectory and this guy hasn’t moved up really in levels at all until now. I just think the resume screams small timer.

As has been noted, RBs are the easiest position to teach. That's why you fill that particular spot with a proven recruiter. I totally agree that at the other positions, you have to worry about guys that can develop players.

A guy who went 31-15 as a HC at North Carolina Central will be damn fine as a RB coach here.

Ya'll acting like a former OC/HC can't recruit because he spent the bulk of his career at the FCS level are the same folks that were all in on hiring Chadwell.

I don’t think most understand what recruiting at NC central is really all about. I bet their recruiting budget is less than Pruitts McDonald’s bags
