I’m not trying to crap on Rodgers but Mahomes with a foot injury and missing 2 defensive tackles? I think the Super Bowl ring thing is a nice recruiting pitch but when’s the last time he coached in college? The SEC is essentially NFL lite—-glad he played here and all that but I’m skeptical.

That defense also produced 48 sacks and was the number 1 run defense and run td defense in the season.

I honestly think it's all a crap shoot right now. We need some coaches to frankly come out and shock the world (similar to Bob Stoops at Oklahoma circa 99/00 when they had been dead for a decade or Matt Campbell at Iowa State). Its a sad truth, but that where we are. That's also why I'm ok with a young up and comer like the DC from Louisiana. I think our comeback will be from a coaching staff we have the lowest expectations for.
I think I would rather keep rolling the dice on good-great mid-major guys that gave proven they can scheme, build and coach a defense.

2002 at Arkansas, they went 9-5 gave up 19.8 (25th ranked) and lead the SEC in Turnovers with 2.6 a game, finished 2nd in rushing yards allowed behind Alabama at just 113.6 while also sitting tied for fewest rushing TDs allowed at 0.8

2002 is a long stretch from 2021. SEC is a different offensive and defensive league.

Hard to really judge NFL to College transitions trying to use rankings. You have to also dig into did their GM provide them the resources to be successful? In case of Jets with Bowles/Rodgers they weren’t exactly working with a roster full of studs. Bowles showed in Tampa he was still a top Defensive mind like he was in AZ when given the resources. In college you can recruit whoever you want. What tells me a lot is Bowles gets fired from Jets but kept Rodgers the whole way and into Tampa. So he clearly heavily values him as a very good coach. The key will be surrounding with recruiters and adjusting to playing opposite a fast offense. Playing aggressive won’t be an issue as Bowles style was always to bring the heat
