I would give Childress 15 minutes before I gave Pearl another 3, unless the goal is to set picks against your own team, constantly play catch-up, shoot off balance shots behind your head, leave the baseline open, and in general play at the high-school level.

I'd much rather see anyone for 3 over Childress for 15. Are you kidding me? 15 is a ton of minutes for a "no talent ***clown".

Childress got better, then worse, and now who knows? If Pearl is our last best option, Childress can certainly do better.

Big 10 and ACC might disagree.

Mich St., Purdue, Minnesota, Ohio St., Illinois, NWestern and Michigan would all battle UT in the B10.

UNC, Duke, Wake, Clemson, Ga Tech and possibly Md in the ACC.

And I wouldn't count out Texas, Okla, Kansas, Baylor, and Mizzou in the B12.

I just don't see all those beating UT. I think they would be 4th at worst in both.

Tennessee is 15 points better than Illinois, Northwestern, Georgia Tech, and Maryland. They're better than Minnesota, Ohio State, Michigan, Clemson, Baylor, and Missouri.

I also didn't see a mediocre Temple team beating us by 16, or us needing Belmont to miss key free throws down the stretch to hold on at home.

"At worst" so far is their play in the Temple game. By that measurement, the teams I listed certainly would battle UT for one of the top 4 spots in their leagues. And if the Temple game wasn't the "worst," then we should include some more teams.

If UT picks it up and starts to reach their potential, I think they'd finish no worse than third in any league other than the BE. But that's not how I'm gauging "at worst."

This team can play very well. They also can look atrocious. I guess my standard deviation assessment of this team is greater than yours, hat's and others who've posted here.

Was Louisville better than Minnesota?

Was Notre Dame better than Ohio State?

The standard was "at worst." I certainly think "at worst" at least several of those teams could best us.

You know as well as I that you're taking "at worst" out of context. In any single game, any of those teams can beat us. Over the course of a season of up and down play, I don't believe any of them can. We would have to sustain some very poor play to let those guys surpass us.

I like your use of Pomeroy. Maybe you and ViA can compare notes.

I don't claim to have a deep or refined knowledge of the finer points of basketball... But I don't have to have such knowledge to observe that Maze got absolutely abused yesterday. Hopefully he'll learn from it.

1) Use what you got.

2) And you all might be right come the end of the season, but as of now, the part in bold has not been determined. We beat good Gtown and Marquette teams away from home. We barely beat a sound but undermanned Belmont team at home. And we got thumped by a good Gonzaga team and a mediocre Temple team away from home. Add to that Prince's health, Hopson's inability to break out, our lack of a consistent post scoring threat, and periodic bouts of confusion on both sides of the floor, and that's plenty of reason to still question where this team will end up.

Thus the nature of a hypothetical discussion.

With J.P. back, neither Pearl nor Childress will have any need to see the floor except during mop-up duty. There's already a rotation of Chism, Maze, Hopson, Tatum, Tyler, Tabb, Williams, Prince, Woolridge and Negedu in place - that's 10 players, and that's plenty. Wouldn't be surprised to see that cut to 9, with Negedu being the odd man out.

Questioning I agree with. I'm just talking from which team has the best base of talent. Obviously, things change and anything can happen when they actually have to play the games.

Absolutely. By that measure, we're among the top 10 teams in the country - fairly easily, I'd even say.

The effectiveness of the team as a whole is what I question.

And don't get me wrong - I'm pulling for them big-time.
