You took my comment and apparently applied it to other topics lol. Your comment implied that people hiring coaches are inherently smarter. History at many many programs suggests otherwise.
No, there’s no way to gauge that.
You’re either hire coaches or not.
But the evidence from posters suggests they are mostly incapable of looking past the cover on a book and make hasty judgments from that.
The people actually doing the hiring, even many times they strike out, I’m confident the they do a little more research

The best coach won’t be someone wanting to be somewhere else. Period.
I’m hoping we hire Washington and he wants to be here , not just for the money,
But if not, I’d rather have someone else.
That's for a candidate to decide. You can't hire someone against their will so that's a silly concern. What you can do is go after the best candidates and make them an offer that is hard to pass on. If they accept, great. If not, move on. No need to let your ego stand in the way and restrict the hiring pool to VFLs.

If indeed, Coach Washington is conflicted by wanting to stay with tOSU versus taking the money/job at UT - I hope DW has the good sense to withdraw the offer. Before entering into any compensation package negotiation for employment the prospective new hire needs to be certain that he/she/pronoun neuter/dog/bird/plane/et cetera is willing to take the job if the prospective employer meets the demand. There should be no delay in signing (except for producing legal documents) once that is met if the person/dog/bird/plane/ et cetera is dealing in good faith.

Or,

All the talk about what is going on may be unverified, speculative chatter - as usual.

If his head is in Knoxville but his heart is in Columbus things don’t work out to well for Knoxville.

As someone who has had the experience of working at a job they liked and had a lot of friends, and then taken a more lucrative offer to pick up and move to another state, I will say to give the guy a break. This is a big life decision for him and his family. The fact that he is taking his time when he is getting pulled in two directions at once doesn't mean he's not going to be committed or give his best efforts in Knoxville if we get him. If he does take the job, let's all get behind him and give him a warm welcome on The Hill. If he doesn't, then next man up.
