Just a random thought. And I know it won’t happen but how insane would it be if Brady stuck around until Arch Manning is in the NFL

If we hire an unproven DC, I'll continue to hope for the best, but it does nothing to alleviate my doubts. I really hope this works out, but it's hard for me to picture that, and if it doesn't work out, everything is more complicated IMO by how DW and JH are tied together. This is either gonna succeed, or end up being our largest clusterf**k yet. And the fact we keep finding ways to make things worse is just downright scary.

From the Eleven warriors message board:

Gotta think Washington is being groomed as the future DC here at Ohio State. The longevity of that Tennessee opportunity is probably a season or two before they inevitably do another staff overhaul.

Love where your head is at NHB - gotta believe his long term plan is in play here. '
I just can’t see him leaving Columbus. The Buckeyes will pony up to keep him and give him the Co-DC title if need be.

This would make sense. I suspect Coach Washington is astute enough to recognize where his long term interest lies. Stating in the fold at tOSU-and getting a raise w/ this leverage-is probably in his best long term career interest.

This is exactly why Day should have given more responsibilities to Washington instead of making Coombs sole DC. If he decides to leave I guarantee they will lose out on several recruiting targets and possibly even a few decommits. OSU better give him more money or at the very least promise him something more for next season

Tennessee is not a great situation to get into,be patient something better will come along, like a big payday from OSU.

There is no definitive word on a decision by Al Washington at this point according to @LettermenRow sources, but this would be a major loss for the Buckeyes after just completing the coaching staff last week.
Hopefully Washington’s agent is just leaking this to negotiate a pay bump.

This would be a major loss for the Buckeyes if he leaves. Such a good recruiter and coach. I get why he'd do it since it would be a promo but got to think that there have to be better options than Tenn in the near future.

Day can't let Washington leave. Make him co-DC and tell Coombs to deal with it. Washington is just too invaluable to let him walk in both recruiting and player development. We can't let the guy who single handily saved Baron Browning and Pete Werner's careers walk out the door with no clear replacement. Day has to use the money saved from Mattison's retirement to keep Washington.

Agreed with everyone on here this would set us back immensely not only in player development but also in recruiting. Losing out on a top caliber up and coming coach like Washington is the last thing we need right especially after the defense is already undergoing some major changes. Missing out on Marcus Freeman was bad enough in my opinion but losing Washington would hurt and we’d probably lose a lot of recruits in the process, seeing how Washington is almost always the lead recruiter on Defense. For the sake of our 2021 season and beyond praying this doesn’t happen. And if indeed Day was stockpiling payroll to plan for things like this, good work Coach Day.
Somebody needs to feed Clay Travis some bad information about skeletons in Washington’s closet.
Hope he stays, but I do not get the people not understanding why he may consider this move.
Defensive coordinator is a much bigger and better job than linebackers coach. In charge of the defense or just coaching one position group. It’s a big promotion.
And while Tennessee has not been very good lately, they have a good history, a strong following and brand, and play in the SEC. people are acting like he is being offered a job at Cincinnati or something. They are 10th on the all time wins list among major programs.

Tennessee Rumored to Be Zeroing in on Al Washington for DC

I will say, I really like the potential of Washington. And It's obvious OSU thinks highly of him. It's just scary having a guy who hasn't done it before. A lot like what we did with Pruitt as HC. It's a big risk thinking they can just step into that role at this level.

There is no such thing as a guarantee....bob shoop was considered a homerun and Kevin Steele who is considered good has been fired for doing a poor job before.... a good coach is a good coach..... I hope Heupel knows what he is looking for.

Washington seems like a Sunseri hire. I hope it works out but it’s hard not to be worried how he will do in the coordinator role without 5-stars all over the place.

Bump and condensed. (^^^From January 27th.)

UPDATE:
I start my new job in the morning! I wanted to thank everyone in this thread for keeping me sane this winter. I lost a good job back in March and was having a hard time finding something comparable. My mind was really starting to mess with me and playing in here helped me get through the days I was home alone. The posters in this forum are some of the best people I've ever "met". You all are quick to pray, quick to donate, and quick to help anyone that asks you for it. The VN RF is a special place and I appreciate all of you.

GOD IS GOOD

GBO
Congrats TP

This makes me want Washington really bad. He is being groomed to be their DC and is responsible for a lot of their development and recruiting. Bring him on!
I mean, he's highly successful at recruiting, but he's recruiting to Ohio State. It's a different situation than we've faced here. When kids commit to Ohio State, they're mostly committing to the school. When kids commit to Tennessee, they're mostly committing to the coach. Ohio State's recruiting won't fall off if he leaves.
