That is the problem. So bama is going to continue to be on top until Saban retires, and even then, the new coach will have every built in advantage that others don't. If they make a good hire, this will continue
Hopefully one day on the not so distant future, Bama will get all of their championships vacated.

That was it, good memory. Ya, he was so good at Oakland, seemed like a super nice guy too. Hated to see his career tank like that. People act like these GMs are so much smarter than average fans, but decisions like that (and a lot of bad QB draft decisions over the years) make me wonder if they really are.

My ultimate lifetime goal would be to get to the level of GM or Assistant GM (which i know has winning the lottery level odds) so it infuriates me when all these current GMs do things that a kindergarten level football mind would know not to do. They get so caught up in numbers and trying to outsmart the room that they just completely whiff.

Like why in the hell was josh Rosen drafted so high? Or why would you sign Blake Bortles to a big contract? Why if you are the cardinals do you draft Isaiah Simmons that high when your OL is bad and your QB is tiny.

Alabama signing half of the top 50 and we over here just begging for a full staff of coaches and a transfer kicker
You have to wonder why we even bother anymore. CFB is rigged. The rich at the top, then the rest of us. And our university can't even get out of their own way so that we can win 9 games

Is this a product of spending alot of time in gun formations though? Better metric would show sacks by year by formation
More about sacks per drop back. Heupel increased offensive plays per game every season but number of run plays remained the same. So the increase was more drop backs.

That’s what a city that’s “on board” with a schools athletic dept looks like
LOL. Even their police are on board. Remember when they arrested their players for guns and then let them go. The police chief said something like "Hey, those players have to practice with no A/C. They get hot, and make bad decisions" or something. Even the police protect bama.

No one is replicating what saban is doing. They will be right where Georgia is now within 2 years.

I don't know. Saban is GOAT right now, but some of this is the result of bigger things at play. I will believe it until I die...you can't tell me the 2019 Bama game wasn't called in favor of Bama. It was blatantly clear. That is really the problem....there are just too many Bammers in the SEC office and NCAA offices. Officiating, administrators, secretaries, etc...it permeates everything and it is just too easy to look the other way or not pass up a memo or not look into anything or have an unconcious bias when calling a game. Look at the Bama/MSU game from 2019 as well. Its a total sham and the sad part is I'm not sure it is even intentional - its just a product of the conference running things out of Birmingham, AL and this is the result.

I'm convinced a borderline retard could step into the the Bama HC role and stumble into a SEC championship every few years. It is what it is. It almost makes me want to give up watching CFB because it is quickly becoming a futile enterprise.

John Brice on Basilio talking about the DC position:

Doesn't think Steele is a fit for what Heupel wants on defense.

Confirmed Arnett was contacted last week. Apparently on Feburary 1, a clause in his contract increased his buyout.

Also confirmed that multiple NFL defensive assistants have contacted Tennnessee with interest in the DC position, as well as power 5 coaches.

Heupel has been conducting DC interviews this week.

Edit:
He also said that he talked to a ncaa compliance officer who said that Tennessee should be able to avoid the "Lack of institutional control" penalty.

Also thinks the DC hire is impending, by the end of the week.

I really don’t see it that way. I think the best teams get the best breaks Bc they make them happen. In every sport. Bama, Clemson, Ohio state. Patriots for so long. Chiefs now. Jordan bulls. Lebrons teams. When you are elite things just go your way and you get the benefit of the doubt.

Sure... When the season starts and the players take the field.

Taking our superior talent and beating those teams should be Heupel's top priority as a coach.

As a recruiter, there is no reason to lower ourselves to those standards. Every coach we have ever had has out recruited those teams and there is no reason to lower the bar for JH now.

I think in the past we could do that. It's different now. Thanks to NCAA and lack of recruiters on this staff so far.

That’s the way we are suppose to be handling business.....it’s part of the reason we struggle

Fantastic news on both....Amazing what happens when you fire everyone and not retain anyone....Great to also see NFL guys interested in the DC job
