Ask Ron Mexico Anything, Except For Life Advice II

I've smoked maybe once or twice since my transplant. The routine blood tests kind of discourages me from doing it, plus it is still illegal in TN. I'm not on anything for stress and anxiety anymore. Used to take Xanax, but pre-transplant they made me stop, saying it wasn't good for the liver. Haven't been on anything for anxiety since. Really sucks, because I'm a worrier with the ulcers to prove it.
Do they run a separate test for THC? That’s something they would specifically have to look for. It wouldn’t just pop up while they were checking your liver functions and anti-rejection med levels.

Let’s just say that “a close family member” had a prescription for medical marijuana in California before they just legalized it across the board. He has pretty serious anxiety, but nothing like your bundle of issues. If anyone were ever a likely candidate for a trial of MM, it would be you.

If nothing else, maybe a trial of CBD, which supposedly reduces anxiety without the “whee” of the real thing. There are residents in my mom’s assisted living who are on CBD for arthritis, etc. You should do what you’re comfortable with, but I do get angry when people suffer as a result of laws passed and maintained in order to guard the profits of Big Pharma. 😡

I don’t know if weed helps. A close friend really messed himself up with 20ish years of blow and booze abuse. Only thing he does any more is weed, and he does a lot. You’d expect him to be mellow but rageaholic is an understatement. It’s sorta funny and horrifying simultaneously.
Does he smoke an indica or a sativa? Plus, people respond differently to marijuana. Sure, it mellows a lot of people, but I've also seen it induce panic attacks. Different body chemistries yield different results.

Been meaning to go to one of those CBD Shaman shops here in Knoxville. Just haven't done it yet. If I do, I'll have to let my liver doctors know because apparently some studies suggest CBD can interact with my anti-rejection meds. Would just mean more routine blood work to monitor my tacro levels.
This is interesting. You might talk honestly with your doc as they make medical grade pills too.

Δ9-Tetrahydrocannabinol attenuates allogeneic host-versus-graft response and delays skin graft rejection through activation of cannabinoid receptor 1 and induction of myeloid-derived suppressor cells

I have no idea. We live in different states now and I usually only see him once or twice a year. He probably keeps a variety on hand. I know he had a lot of heart issues and he’s had a couple of pig valves installed. I’ve read about people with heart issues having rage problems.

One of the major malpractices of modern medicine is the hesitance to use medical marijuana across the board. We know it has medicinal usages, but because it is enjoyed recreationally as well, the medical community, largely pushed by the pharma industry, refuse to back known science. Pain, anxiety, extreme nausea (such as in cancer patients undergoing chemo), even glaucoma can be treated with marijuana. Instead we label it a "gateway" drug and criminalize it. Absurd. And medical usage is really just the tip of the iceberg on what the actual plant can be used for. I saw a stat once that just one acre of hemp can provide as much paper as 10 acres of natural timberland. Imagine what that would mean in terms of deforestation. All because of "reefer madness".

I've often thought it would help my wife. People thinks "it's us bible thumpers" that keep it from being used medically, but I sincerely don't onow anybody against it, except pharmaceutical companies.

CBD has pushed that envelope, but hell you still have counties that won't allow liquor by the drink. There may be fewer of them, but there are still many that take that war on drugs as serious as any moral battle.

Pharma can't control it, so they're out, and government doesn't want to piss off pharma or regulate it, so they're out too. Which is a shame, because if they did regulate it, they could tax it, and it would open up a large new stream of revenue. Most people are too lazy to put in the work to actually grow and harvest it themselves. It could be a serious industry if we just legalized it nationwide.

In antebellum America, hemp rope is the only rope that wouldn't damage the fibers of cotton once baled. I will search an old bibliography (if I can find it) about how the DuPont family's "war on hemp [rope]" during the Gilded Age paved the way for the anti-cannibis crusade and "RM" image of the 20th century.

True, but I'd much rather have pot than the crap they put in pills. That's how most people I know feel.
