Looks like Chaney is gone

Thank the lord, Chaney hasn’t done anything for Tennessee in his 2 tries here
I really wonder how much Pruitt actually "hand-cuffed" him. Coaches don't talk much negative about one another because too much interaction down the line in their careers. All the talking is face to face leaving the media out of it.

People have posted about this. From what I gather from them Pruitt restricted Chaney to a majority of very conservative calls with now and again trying for a long ball. I believe the biggest coaching staff problem was Weinke. There was zero QB development and JG regressed as a QB during his time at UT. Chaney really didn't have the tools or the support to do what needed to be done.

I’m going to be honest with y’all. Cleaning house from top to bottom will be the best thing to ever happen to Tennessee considering the last 16 years. We’ve been full of ego and micromanaging for too long. Time for the new to move in because we didn’t get anywhere with too many homer’s in the house.

A whole new cultural change may be just what the Dr. ordered. Ability to recruit is the challenge now.

Not a good sign. He needs to be the head coach, not offensive coordinator. He teaches the OC and always has the ability to change the play.

I would suspect there is a great deal of "blow it up and start over" that Heupel has to do because Tennessee's players arent conditioned or capable of a high powered fast paced offense. Heupel will want to fully install his offensive methods in Knoxville before handing over the OC job to another guy.

Unless he can get Lebby who is quite familiar with JH's system.

HAHA..."A control freak". This guy is an offensive guru, he isn't handing off play calling. Do you call Lincoln Riley, Sean McVay or *GASP* LANE KIFFIN control freaks?

Simmer down, I’m not a Kiffin guy and I do consider both a McVay and Riley control freaks. Not saying it’s a coach killer, but it’s not easy to start out with that much responsibility.

This is dumb. You want to take play calling away from the guy that has called the plays for offenses that have consistently ranked in the top 10-15 in yards and points.

Your issue isn't with the play calling, your issue is that you just don't like the hire. It's okay to not like the hire, but don't make stupid arguments as reasons you don't like it.

Gentlemen,
There is no reason to be polite here. You know that I'm a highly optimistic fan (based on past posts). However, I warned everyone that I knew that Chaney was a mistake to hire. I even went so far as to say that Georgia might win a National Championship now that they don't have him. He is an archaic OC. He should have gone to the NFL 20 years ago. Now the NFL runs too modern of offenses for Chaney. He will always have those Drew Brees years back at Purdue.

It's HIS offense! He's always called the plays. You're seriously going to look at his offensive stats and tell him he shouldn't be calling plays? SMDH.
It called basic leadership ... he should focus on teaching his assistants what he wants/does and as always has the ability to change any play. Good leaders develop people and do not micro manage ...

Spurrier, Bill Walsh , just a couple I can think of that called their own plays. I’m sure there is plenty more calling their own plays that were successful. We’re they good leaders?
