I get what youre saying but not all oc/dc’s are as bad as Pruitt. Lol. Plenty have success as a first time HC. See OSU for example.
OSU, really? You're going to use Ohio State as an example? This program is going to have to be built, again and it's going to take more than a coordinator to do it

Lol weakest rebuttal ever. Yeah it was Tony Elliott who won all of those championships for Clemson and not Dabo and Deshaun Watson and Trevor Lawrence and a **** ton of 5*s
How did Clemson look without Elliott against OH ST? How does Bama look without Pruitt? Huge difference. But keep telling yourself Dabo is anything more than a cheerleader

Local sports radio here in SC say tony Elliott would be an idiot to take the tennessee job. He’d have better options open up if he waits it out, places he wouldn’t be destined to fail. They also said South Carolina will recover before tennessee does because we’re beyond fixing.
Beyond fixing? Based on what?

I appreciate Atlanta Vol's posts, and I'm not saying I *totally* believe this to be the case, but he said himself at the beginning of the search that he's just going to drop by to give some positive vibes. I would not be surprised if he's trying to keep everyone calm by being reassuring while we plan out a Tony Elliott hire that he knows will be met with mixed reception.

Basically, he has shown a willingness to stretch the truth and be very selective with the information he gives out.
you could say the same about chadwell too. either way, it's not totally without merit.

If our AD picks Elliot, I’m good. I actually trust the person making the call this time until I got a reason not to.

give me something Hank. Why should I be happy about that?

Like I’ve told you before there’s a very very small list the last few years of college coaches garnering interest from NFL teams: Urban meyer, Matt ruhle, Matt Campbell, Kliff kings bury, Dan Mullen, Lincoln Riley, and tony Elliot. That alone tells me that he is elite in some form of fashion Bc everyone of those guys are elite at something. Not that they are perfect head coaches but they have something very good to bring to the table. Not to mention him turning down Georgia Tech for HC too.

Virtually anyone in media or around the game absolutely raves about not just Elliot as a coach but also more importantly as a person. That’s why i think it would be a modern version of hiring David cutcliffe away from us. There’s a reason why dabo has been absolutely hell bent on keeping him.

Also I’ll be honest. I would love to see Ut hire a black head coach. We would be the only school in the SEC with it and I’m tired of seeing overly qualified African Americans be passed over for jobs. Tony may come her and be an absolute train wreck but i think he’s more than deserving and the thought of him recruiting here and bringing some of clemsons staff and culture gives me all kinds of fuzzies.

I'm not willing to write Elliott off just because he hasn't been a head coach. I would rather a proven guy from a P5, but Dabo had zero experience and essentially went from WR coach to HC at Clemson.

Honestly, I think Elliott is far from the same cloth as Pruitt.
You guys have got to stop using Clemson and Ohio State as examples, thats like saying Saban lost to Monroe in his first year to justify losing to Ga State. This is a different kind of rebuild

Another thing to add, just like Pruitt, Tony Elliot has never had to rebuild a program coming off NCAA sanctions.

He had the benefit of working with a Top 3 HC that took Clemson to another level once he took over.

This job isn’t going to be like Clemson where he’ll have more talented players to work with than the rest of the conference.

There’s plenty of legitimate reasons why this would be a skeptical hire.

Don’t fall for this again.

Lane is in that sweet spot age where he has a lot of experience and yet still relates really well with his players. He has coached in the SEC. He hates Saban. He owes us one. I hated the guy at one time. I've moved past that. I can't f'in believe there is all this talk of Franklin. Good grief! Kiffin 1,000x over James Franklin...if Lane would take the job then bring his ass home!

SC radio stations poo pooing TN and wanting Elliot to stay put?

Dabo is a really good recruiter...also does a really good job of hiring good assistants and letting them do their jobs. I don't think he is head and shoulders better than everyone with X's and O's. But he knows what he is good at and does it really well obviously.

I’ve come around on TE. I wish he has head coaching experience, for sure. But I like lots of other things about him.

He’s not jumping from job to job. It seemed like Pruitt couldn’t stick anywhere because he couldn’t get along with anybody.

This time around we have an experienced AD. Having first-timers at AD AND head coach was a disaster from the beginning.

TE probably has a leg up on recruiting over some of the other names floating around. I’m sure we’ve been recruiting some of the same players and he’s recruited in the southeast.

These are just a few things that jump out to me.

I've not been able to drink out of my "best dad ever" coffee mug since this coaching search started. My wife and kids hid it from me. 😞

Go vols
🤦‍♂️
Gracious. I've got to get out of this thread for a few hours. I just tried to like my own post and I JUST POSTED IT.

For me it’s all about buying into the person that Tony Elliot is. His resume isn’t going to knock anyone’s shoes off but the way his players and people in the industry respect him and like him it the most important thing to me. I think tony Elliot is a modern version of David cutcliffe when he was hired by Ole Miss. i will fully support him and hitch my wagon to him if he is our guy.

Big truth, we had plenty of former Georgia guys in the mainstream media straight up say they didn’t think Pruitt was ready.

And I’m sure more would have too, if asked.
