No, I don't care about the media. But James Franklin isn't some amazing, unmissable hire. He went 4-5 at Penn State this year and struggles to beat the big dawgs in his conference with a much easier schedule. He's a good coach, don't get me wrong, but I don't think his baggage is worth the risk.

I'd rather go Fleck or Elliot, and I have been vocally outspoken about how I don't really want either of them. They'd both be a better and safer choice than James Franklin.

It doesn't matter if Franklin was "technically" cleared of any wrong doing in the Vandy scandal, the public perception is he had a hand in the matter, which is tougher to sell than just being like "Look at this report that says they can't find anything on him." Especially after we torpedoed Schiano for his part in the Penn State child abuse scandal when there "technically" wasn't any evidence there either.

If we hire Franklin after giving the middle finger to Schiano, it would look horrible. We would be best served to steer clear of anyone from Penn State/Vandy. Plenty of other great coaches out there.

You're right, we would be best served to get campbell or someone of that type over Franklin. We agree on that. But that doesn't mean DW doesn't see it differently. you don't have to convince me that Franklin is shady i think everyone agrees on that on this forum. But our opinions don't mean ish to our new AD and he's gonna hire whoever he thinks will win and build us back. Is that Franklin? Looks like it is a possibility.

Franklin consistently has Penn State playing better defense than their offense. Not really an offensive minded coach it seems. Over the past 3 or 4 years his total offense is in the 40s and total defense in the 20s-30s.

I know this is not a whale name, but wouldn't Billy Napier be a pretty damn good hire and they've made sure to keep his name out of the mix in the media when early on you would think that would be a big push?

Not saying he is the whale if that truly happens but I could see him having been a top candidate from the start and all this other stuff being a diversion.
