Rhule has complete control on game day roster decisions. Collaborates with GM on everything else.
and i think he was involved with the GM decision...not that he was part of the decision, but i'm pretty sure he had input. Rule is staying in the NFL, as is Joe Brady. would be shocked, happily, if either wound up here....but i'd put the chances at

On first team this morning the first couple of names he mentioned were Franklin, Dykes, and Leipold. He went on later in the interview to say the others (Campbell, Fleck, etc) but I thought it was interesting that is where he thinks this might be going.
I'll be the market for a new mattress if they trot Dykes out

I’m going to give a chance to whoever it is, I trust DW knows what he is doing. That said I have my favorites and Franklin isn’t even on my list.
I would assume if it is him that all that was vetted and DW is confident in his innocence. Those rumors will always follow him though so I don't think it will be him.

I don't have to convince you of anything, not the point i'm trying to make (i apologize if this looks like i'm grandstanding for Frankling because i'm not). I'm saying this is about those headcoaches convincing DW about being clean and a safe trustable hire. Franklin doesn't have NCAA baggage, chadwell does. Franklin technically was cleared of any wrongdoing in the Vandy case. It's not like DW was close to the situation like us Vol fans were when the vandy stuff happened so he might not have such a sour taste about Franklin as the majority of our fanbase does.

It doesn't matter if Franklin was "technically" cleared of any wrong doing in the Vandy scandal, the public perception is he had a hand in the matter, which is tougher to sell than just being like "Look at this report that says they can't find anything on him." Especially after we torpedoed Schiano for his part in the Penn State child abuse scandal when there "technically" wasn't any evidence there either.

If we hire Franklin after giving the middle finger to Schiano, it would look horrible. We would be best served to steer clear of anyone from Penn State/Vandy. Plenty of other great coaches out there.

ISU fans desperately looking for money to counter our offer -

Is that $40 million actually guaranteed, or will they throw the next coach under the bus too in order to avoid the buyout?
Campbell will have even better offers if next year’s squad has good ST play.

$8 million is a lot. Time to knock down the pay for T&F and XC. Not kidding. Shake free some of the $45 million added to the budget since 2010. Hit the donors, raise ticket prices, and even borrow. I’ll do not understand why it’s conventional to borrow and take on relatively long term debt for infrastructure but not for proven coaches.

Look horrible to who? The media? Do you really care?

I'm confused. In an earlier post you said it was done. This sounds like it's not done. Which is it?

I do think its done meaning they have identified the primary target and made him an offer that it appears has been or will be accepted today. Who it is, I do not know. My guess is MC.
IF the primary target does not pull the trigger today, I think we have a secondary target already identified that will. Have no idea who secondary target is, but do not think it is JF.
I think sometime today it breaks. This is a search unlike any of our others. Very close to the vest, and the only leaks are ones they are putting out to keep people off the scent IMHO.

The media would crucify this program for hiring Franklin after taking the moral high ground in the press conference

Freeze I think would be eaten alive here by the media, so yeah I'm out. Kiffin's baggage is different. I'd love a Kiffin hire.

Listen, Freeze is linked to hookers/prostitutes being used on recruiting visits. James Franklin, fair or not fair, is linked to a potential rape coverup.

Kiffin? His "baggage" is immaturity and having a big ego. That's not that bad. I just don't think this university needs any sort of coach who has been linked to college athletes and sexual favors/sexual abuse.

Never heard that on Freeze. I thought the call girls were for him not recruits...

But then you lost me even more saying Kiffin was just immature but how quickly you forget he sent girls to recruits football games and all but wifed up Bryce Brown. Lacey Earps would have been trending on Twitter if it was around back then.
