I am one of those who will be kinda pissed. With our situation, we can’t afford to put someone in their who is learning on the job. I made a spiel about it in the RF. I think he is a great play-caller, but he isn’t what we need at this time in our program imo.Two thoughts for me today:
I think we might want to start prepping hot take reactions for the hiring of Matt Campbell. Tony Elliott as a back up.
Did a little reading on Tony Elliott for the first time this morning - some people will be pissed but I like him.

Elliott wouldn’t be my first choice but don’t think it’s the worst choice either. Two thoughts for me today:

This isn’t a job where a coordinator comes in and tries to learn how to be a coach while dealing with infractions. That is setting him and you up to fail. It isn’t Elliott.
You’re asking a guy who has never done it before to deal with any kind of infractions (whether they are minimal or huge), rebuild a culture, rebuild a roster, hire a staff, learn how to delegate, deal with boosters, deal with unrealistic(at times at least) fan expectations, and you will be measured by Bama, UF, and UGA. That is a LOT on a coach who hasn’t learned by trial and error at a smaller school. I think he is a fantastic play-caller, but he isn’t what we need right now.
Pick it apart ZIf White is doing a lot of these things then he is doing exactly what Fulmer did: micromanaging. We need a coach that has experience being a coach. Pruitt came from a winning culture. Ours still sucked. There is nothing to suggest that bringing a Clemson atmosphere here will work. Elliot needs to season himself at a smaller school. It would benefit him tremendously. UT is one of the most challenging jobs in the country. We don’t need a rookie.
I’m not saying we shouldn’t give someone 5 years, but that doesn’t mean I think we WILL give them that long. Natives get restless quick.Normally no. But with not being consistently relevant in 10 years, not winning the East in 15, not winning anything meaningful in over 20, and working in coach #6 in 14 years...and looming sanctions incoming...it’s gonna take a while
Big props to DW for keeping this thing so under wraps. Really impressive.Clemson Rivals -
In light of what was shared last night by Mike Farrell of Rivals.com, this is a good opportunity to share what we know about the situation involving Tony Elliott and Tennessee.
A source told Farrell that the Tennessee job is Elliott's if he wants it. We are not disputing Farrell's reporting; that information may well be true, though we cannot verify it.
But we are confident in saying that, as of this morning, there had yet to be any contact between Elliott and Tennessee.
