If Steele was coming in as a position coach or coordinator and Pruitt had a say in the hiring, that would speak volumes to me.

However, as an analyst or off field coach, this doesn't tell me anything one way or another on Pruitt.

All it says is that the AD wants Steele involved in someway moving forward.

Could mean that Fulmer isn’t as confident as he once was too.

Or the AD knows Pruitt wants him if he survives and also knows the next coach is on board if needed and wants him as well

Gary has made a living beating teams he shouldn’t because he gets the most from his players and they believe they can win they don’t think they can.

Lol. But it's the University of Texas. TCU has one of the lowest enrollments in FBS. Patterson is a good coach, but you don't lose 3 of 4 at Texas and expect to keep your job. Just like Vanderbilt for us.

They said working to finalize a deal as a defensive assistant.

I love freeze but there’s a lot of risk there, much much more than you are acting like. The majority of the fondness for him is because he won two meaningless games against Alabama. It’s still very impressive but there’s more to it.

You also don’t need to have recruited well in the sec before being hired in order to infect recruit well. It’s been proven time and time again.

I could also make the argument that winning nfl playoff games (or really any games) with Blake bortles or Gardner minshew is more impressive than anything any other realistic candidate has done.
I agree with a lot of what you said & Freeze bring my #1 choice but not the end all be all. The one thing I will argue with is what’s so much more risky to hiring Freeze versus Pruitt or any other bum that we’ve had in the last 12 years or if we do what we normally do hiring another unproven. We’ve been in the death penalty for a decade & a half as is.

Conspiracy angle:

steele doesn’t want to coach and just wants to collect his very large auburn buyout.

He needs to satisfy the clause of attempting to find employment as the contract says

he takes this job and days later Pruitt is fired.

boom he can say he tried to get employment and then head to the beach

We haven't considered one option... Pruitt isn't hiring Steele, Fulmer is. Ole Fulmer gonna trot out there as head coach next year. He sees Mack Brown and says, "I can do that too." Tee is on staff, Jay is on staff, Chaney, a man right up Phil's alley, is on staff, Chavis is right down the road to come in and coach Line backers. Steele will be Fulmer's DC. It's all coming together! The band's getting back together!

Sorry guys, I’ve been busy today.. I’m catching up on pages, but what is leading to Marrone talk.

Is there one specific report?

And if Texas still got 90% of their classes on their junior days it wouldn’t matter. Laugh all you want but Gary is a great coach. Hell I wish he was at Tennessee

HITR was right, Pruitt is coming back. Okay, give me Garner too and please add a dynamic offensive assistant to fix that side of the ball. Bring me Gilbert and Big Kat and let's roll.
They are just stocking the cupboard for the next coach. It’s a move to look like a move of progress but really means nothing regarding Pruitt.

If I’m being honest, it’d be better than what we saw last year.

I have no idea how that relates to Texas. They shouldn't lose to TCU, and they know that. If you were a Texas fan, you would understand that too.
