Must be lots of conflicting information if they're going around again.

It's just how it works. You do an in-house investigation, then bring in outside counsel to validate, clear up inconsistencies and see if there's anything else out there. That way, outside counsel can defend allegations with confidence and credibility. And if a client is questioning whether they can, or should, terminate for cause, outside counsel digs deeper and makes a recommendation.

Their argument literally boils down to "he's an adult" what the hell does that mean is that Boomer for sucks? We need a dude who has actively won games in the SEC and found success recruiting in this league. If we had any balls in our athletic department we would cut Pruitt loose & bring Freeze in the next day and tell the SEC to choke on it.

Get over it. Freeze ain't coming. Even Auburn wouldn't hire him.

You guys can look at your numbers all you want.

The only way it works is if he just talks and his assistants do the work.
maybe hats what should’ve been happening anyways... the minute I heard Pruitt talk about pushing in a Qb sneak by Maurer with Bailey at receiver as “his play” I was sold on the idea he wasn’t letting guys do their job.

Can I just say I don't think it's a given that Marrone would take this job?

Am I taking crazy pills?

He at least had a call with Fulmer last time it was open, but the timing would've been crazy for him to leave the NFL. I'm not sure he'd take it but this is probably far and away the best gig he can get right now.

Marrone with Steele and Garner? That’s A+ with the state we’ll likely be in at the point where we’ll be in the market.

Why Garner? For years everyone has thought he's the most corrupt recruiter in the SEC.

We're under investigation for recruiting violations right now

Exactly.

That’s just how VN works though.

We bring in a new coach even though he sucks, and try to hype him up until SEC play starts. Then we get our ass handed to us by Bama, Georgia, and Florida until we beat Vandy, then we start yelling, “We’re back!”.

Once Marrone is fired, we’ll be back in this exact thread wondering what the hell happened?

Same story every three years.

Napier, Chadwell, and Herman are "I had a hunch" coaches, too. Marrone has proven more than them. I guess if you want Gus Malzahn, who has been mediocre the last 7 years.
Let's talk about resumes relative to this job. You say Marrone has proven more than Herman...I suppose that's true if the job in question is an NFL job. If you're suggesting that Marrone has a better resume for this job than Herman or Gus, that's just insane. Marrone's resume is probably just as good as Chadwell or Napier's.

At least Gus won 60% of his SEC games over 8 years, almost won a national title as an HC, won the SEC once and played for it a second time, and had some success against Saban. He's got a hell of a lot better resume for this job than Marrone does.

If the Marrone/Steele rumors are just someone blowing smoke to get the fans' reaction..... it's working. I don't like it.... at all.

*I don't like it enough to say "if it's DM, I'd rather just keep Pruitt".

**Pruitt needed to be gone 3 weeks ago

Bringing in Steele while Pruitt's future is most likely finished at UT? I'm sure the next HC will love being forced to take PS as the DC or analyst. UT doing UT ****. I don't see any of this working out. UT trying to be cheap, keeping one HC from his full buyout and getting Steele for free.

You need to knock it off with all the facts and explanations. We need more hand-wringing, hysteria, and jumping to conclusions.

If there is nothing there let’s say why on earth would Pruitt want to be here?

I don’t think any of us would want to be

3 weeks ago, I'd be there with you.. it is WAY past being able to mend any of these relationships at this point

I can't take it seriously if you are going to say that Marrone is "probably just as good as Chadwell or Napier." It's not even close. Herman won at a G5 school and had one good year with a Sugar Bowl at Texas where he still lost 4 games. I just can't believe people just look at numbers and nothing else.

Given the lack of immediate competition for coaches and the existing coaching pool, is Marrone the best available option for UT at this time? IMO, no. If we aren’t getting the best available candidate, or at least trying, we should not be talking ourselves into how great a should-be down-list candidate will be. If that’s where we land, we will be back on this train in a few years, and what’s left of Fulmer’s legacy will be a smoldering pile of mattress ashes.
