Justin Pugh and Chandler Jones were 2*s, but do they get retroactively bumped to 5*s because they were 1st rd picks? Ryan Nassib? He had 13 guys picked that he coached or recruited in his brief time there.
It's interesting to me how Marrone backers lead with his NFL record, as though that's the best evidence of his coaching ability. IMO, what he did at Syracuse is more impressive than his NFL stints. He had a couple good seasons there by their standards, and had some good players.

The best thing you can say about his NFL career is "I have a hunch he's a good coach - he just couldn't show it because Coughlin was an idiot with the roster."

He went .500 at Syracuse where the previous 4 years they won a total of 9 games, he was 4-5 against the top 25 at that time.
Syracuse has never recruited well so he did more with less.

Before you start judging his time in Jacksonville you may actually want to read into the circumstances and just how much turmoil Tom Coughlin caused behind the scenes especially with running off half of his roster.

Such a lazy take, I get it he's not the flashy hire everyone wants like a Freeze or Kiffin but don't sit there and act like he's a terrible coach because he's not

He’s not what we need to turn this program around.

All this time trying to get rid of Pruitt only for Marrone to take over is lazy a$$ management by the administration.

He’s the definition of mediocrity at best.

Again, another fail by Tennessee if this turns out to be true.

I think its a guy Fulmer has control over. Someone he's comfortable with. Maybe with a dynamic offensive coordinator, you could sell me on him if he plays the CEO role.
The head coach should only be the CEO. There’s far more of those that are successful than ones that try and call plays and control things they shouldn’t.

He's a good CEO type, he acts like an adult and has solid relationships through the college and pro landscape. UT could do a lot worse than Marrone
Does he have good recruiting connections? I don't doubt he has a decent Rolodex of NFL names.

UT could (and likely will) do worse than Marrone, but I also think we could do better.

Weak mindset. When Tennessee is at full strength as a program, they can compete with anyone in this league.
I think the point is for us to get to that point, this "full strength" you mentioned, we have to pull some away from them, thus they will be "down".

Their argument literally boils down to "he's an adult" what the hell does that mean is that Boomer for sucks? We need a dude who has actively won games in the SEC and found success recruiting in this league. If we had any balls in our athletic department we would cut Pruitt loose & bring Freeze in the next day and tell the SEC to choke on it.

Marrone is just settling.
His records in college and NFL are proof of that.
I disagree, Marrone is a head coach, knows how to be a head coach, Steele is a great DC and I really feel Chaney is a great OC. I’d love to see that experience and leadership take over a program, on the same page!

Lol whatever excuses you all have to make to convince yourself hiring this dude would be of any benefit to Tennessee football. The man's resume is not built to be the flagship coach of an SEC school.

There's Vandy to Bama in the SEC and we're a hell of a lot closer to Vandy right now. We can wish and hope and demand all we want but if the big boys aren't coming there's not much we can do. This job isn't what it once was so much so that mehrrone might be the best we can get.

The only way it works is if he just talks and his assistants do the work.

Napier, Chadwell, and Herman are "I had a hunch" coaches, too. Marrone has proven more than them. I guess if you want Gus Malzahn, who has been mediocre the last 7 years.
