Marrone would have to make an A+ hire for OC for me to get excited. I like that at our OL would likely be much improved so that’s a positive. I just worry about the offense as a whole in this scenario. Who does Marrone have connections to that would come here for OC?

If he had Steele/Gardner combo for DC I’m obviously excited about that and that’s probably the best DC hire we can make at this point. Gardner would just be the cherry on top.

You all wanted Pruitts head on a platter, a few rats saw that the only way that was going to happen was to stab Pruitt in the back...and now we are all gonna reap the whirlwind of doing things the dishonorable backstabbing scumbag cheapscate way.

We should have just fired the man as soon as A&M game was over for doing a bad job, paid him what we agreed to, and sent him on his way.
Agreed if indeed it is a witch hunt to save some cash. If he screwed up not a penny or at most a reduced buyout.

If I had to bet by just reading the tea leaves. Marrone is the next coach with Steele as his DC.

Edit: to go one step further on the limb. I bet it's already done verbally. Just waiting on the investigation to wrap up so they can fire with cause.
Sooo much pure suckitude...I hate being a Vol...I really really hate it now. That is a hopeless boring lifeless loser hire..period.

Didn’t the NCAA kick the one time transfer rule down the road? HT would have to have a rock solid reason to transfer in the SEC for him not to have to sit a year. Something like UGA cutting a parents finger off or something...
No, they passed it. Where have you been

It hasn't been passed yet.

The SEC exception still applies, too.

Definitely a risk to transfer within the conference right now.

Marrone has Phil written all over it. Phil doesn't want someone that he can't or isn't sure he can "influence". Phil has to be "in the coaching loop".... jmho.....
The AD and coach need a good working relationship. I say AD as in Athletic Department. I don’t see fulmer being a negative thing in any form or fashion. Even if he is “too close” to the football program... he’s the one that signed off on all the insane amount of money and resources we gave Pruitt. There is MAYBE 5 current coaches who have more money, resources, and staff allotment than Pruitt has had.

Chadwell likely brings his whole staff. South Carolina teased that out in the interview process. Marrone is not the most exciting name, but he brings immense experience and this job will not be too big for him. If he surrounds himself with an innovative OC and people like Steele and Garner, I will support that.

What's always been weird to me is that in coaching choices the NFL isn't the model to follow. They (the NFL) can get by hiring first time HC so much easier than you can at the college level. Largely because you have a GM & Owner involved with helping you hire/pick all personnel, they will at the end of the day have the ability to veto any choice you make (technically colleges can too, but it's far less common).

Also the talent gap between the Jets and the Chiefs isn't nearly as large as the talent gap between Alabama and -insert 99% of teams in college- so if you "hit" on the right HC you'll excel and even if you misfire you'll still be a potential 500 team anyway. Since the player talent is so close and any given Sunday things can happen.

Feel like in college you have to have a better grasp of being a head coach and your identity as one. Sure some schools have landed their guy from the assistant ranks, but ya see more failures (at least at their first stop) for first timers that take on a Power 5 job out the gate. At the group of 5 level you can be a great recruiter and just out talent teams, hell you can be a great Xs & Os guy and win too. That margin of error closes at the Power 5 level, especially in the SEC.

Long post short...college programs copying the NFL and hiring guys with no HC experience to Power 5 jobs are more likely to be in the market again in a few years.

Of those five how many were 3-7 this past season?

How many have their school under investigation?

How lost multiple games by double digits?

How many chew condoms cause they think it is bubble gum?

Marrone was also the OC for the Saints under Payton for 3 years. While they didn't have great records, they put up the most yards in the NFL 2 out of 3 years and were 4th in the other year. I am sure he has enough connections.

Agreed, similar to what Butch did 2013.
