Maybe they bring in Steele to be his DC and some other proven SEC coaches. And let Chadwell run the offense. Keep Graham. I could see that working. Like how Gus ran the offense and Steele ran the D at Auburn.
This doesn't make sense. If Steele comes here, before we have a resolution on Pruitt, Pruitt is probably coming back. If Pruitt was being relieved of his duties, the next coach would want to hire his own staff. Auburn tried that and it didn't work for them.

HC - Marrone
DC - Steele
OC - an innovative mind
Position coaches - mix of recruiters and developers. Keep Tee and Jay if they want to stay.

That staff would raise the floor around here quite a bit. Need to move quick to catch the assistant coaches while the shuffling is still going on.

I suppose Chadwell as HC with Steele as his DC could work, but Chadwell would have a hard time feeling comfortable with that arrangement given Steele's relationship with Fulmer and what Steele did with Malzahn at Auburn.
Get out of here with being reasonable. We want to yell and scream and whine until we get who we think will be best.

Tony B also said Tom Brady is cooked, but willl try to justify Marrone being a good HC. Works out of his basement and depends on donations to stay on the air. Seems like a decent dude, but hes the Alex Jones of TN sports radio.

Im listening to it right now on Twitter and... what is this? Its a bunch of boomers trying to figure out how phones work lol

This is such a lazy take, have you listened to him over the past 3 months? He's been spot on

I don't like the WRs or RBs as much as others do.

The line is very talented but not built for Chadwell's system at all.

I think Bailey is pretty good and I love Salter, but neither of those guys are a sure thing.

I don't know - I just watched this team win three games and struggle mightily to score. Some of that is coaching, but not all of it.
I was getting more at who, among our competition, you don't think we stack up against talent-wise.

When you look at the teams we play every year, Tennessee does not recruit as well as and is not as talented as Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. There is no shame in not being as talented as Alabama and Georgia, because nobody is as talented and deep as they are. We probably "should" be recruiting somewhere around Florida or Auburn's level, but that is really difficult given we've been terrible for over a decade.

Is there a program as bad as Tennessee that has recruited as well as we have over the last decade? There is only a shortage of talent relative to the upper echelon teams in the country.

I think the more salient point is why we cannot consistently beat Vandy, Kentucky, South Carolina, and Mizzou. Even if you don't like our talent, we are still more talented than those teams, and it isn't even close.

I’m trying to work through the list of names that seem to be getting the most attention in this thread and I’m getting there.

Billy Napier – This search’s Scott Frost
Gus Malzahn – This search’s Les Miles
Hugh Freeze – This search’s Bobby Petrino
Kevin Steele – This search’s Jeremy Pruitt
Lane Kiffin – This year’s Lane Kiffin
Jamey Chadwell – This search’s runner up for Scott Frost

I don’t know much about Fisher and Marrone but at a glance I think I’d go with Fisher out of the two. I do think we need a CEO as a head football coach and someone specifically that can handle the pressure of the job at UT. I think to some degree all three of our most recent head coaches have come unraveled as their tenures here wound down.

I really think we should have hired Jon Gruden in 2012 and that would have been his window in my opinion. I’ve always thought we needed to do a splash hire to reinvigorate the program. We need instant credibility especially in recruiting. We recruit well enough to field a mid-tier SEC team but fans are never going to accept that as a goal. We have to figure out a way to compete with the best and I think it starts with consistently out-recruiting the best. Obviously that’s a tall order but I really think that’s what we’re up against.

I’ve seen some suggestions that the new coach wouldn’t be facing as much of a rebuild as some of our other recent coaches but I disagree. We’ve been is a rebuilding mode for considerably more than a decade and we can’t even sustain getting a foundation in place before the house caves in. We’re hiring production home builders to build a mega mansion with all the best of high end luxuries and that task is way out of their league. It’s seems our plan is and always has been to catch lightning in a bottle. It’s unlikely we’re going to find success – at least not on our own. If the rest of the big six in the conference would implode then maybe but we’re not going to catch them in their current stride unless we kick in some afterburners. jmo.

The cost for who we need is probably around $10 million per year and total CEO-like control. The cost for what we’ll probably get is likely $4 million and micromanagement from a bunch of losers behind the scenes. Same song fourth verse. jmo.

So here’s the challenge – they’re not coming here but who can you think of that might be worth paying $10 million a year to and working out an arrangement to where other than compliance everyone else at UT is hands off everything below the head coach. There’s not a lot of options and we’re not trying to be realistic here. Realistic won’t get us anywhere that we haven’t already been. If we can't get Lincoln Riley then I’m thinking maybe we should go the Barnes route, you know, get a guy that was fired by the other UT. It might not even cost that much. Just a thought.

Not with the right offensive minded coach if he can score 40 points a game. Plenty of talent on the roster with the right coaches.
Right. I don't see what he does as per usual. We have talent on this team. We have 3 highly ranked Qb's on this roster, we have elite talent at receiver in Jones and Hyatt, we have elite running backs on this roster, and an OL that can be elite with proper coaching. We also have young talent on defense. There is talent on this roster. This isn't 2018.

Isnt that against the rules? Sounds like made up drama.
Bama say rules..

It isn't program suicide. You need to calm down, McGill. I'm not wanting to hire Marrone, but the guy has experience. He isn't going to come here and be Pruitt. He knows how to coach. Again, he took Jax to the AFC title game. On top of that, it seems likely that Steel and Garner are on his staff. That's two SEC coaches with experience coaching and recruiting at a high level in this league. Marrone also coached under Payton, he knows what a good offense looks like. He probably brings in a top notch OC. Can he recruit? Not sure. We know Garner can. I think he's a safe hire. Does he win championships? Idk. Does he go 4-8? Not imo. I think he's a stabilizing hire that might bridge us to the next guy.

Again, I'm not sure I want him, but if our options are he and Chadwell, and that appears to be the case, he's the safer of the two. Might not have as high of a ceiling, but I guarantee you he has a higher floor. Chadwell might get up here and get eaten alive in this league. I'm not sure.

Can't wait till Fall and we start hearing rumors of Steele trying to weasel his way to HC....like Auburn then that will drag us another 5 years down the hole because of the locker room being in turmoil again.
