That would definitely create some excitement with a Chdwell hire if he had a defensive staff filled with proven SEC heavy hitters.
It would have me more intrigued then if he brought his CCU staff or a bunch of random names. If his offense is UK ish like I think. Then we could control the clock and win a few games.

I mean if we end up with AP the coach of the year with a SEC defensive staff after the cluster that is Tennessee football right now.........can we really complain? Certainly there are other coaches that we would prefer but we might need to step back and look at the state of the program. And according to some, the perception could / will get worse.

So we're

On Chadwell?
I'm not really "out" on him. I have serious concerns about his scheme. I don't have any concerns about his ability to coach his scheme.

Yeah..the best SEC interior linemen would literally just throw their blockers backwards. I will always remember Nick Fairley basically singlehandedly crumbling the Oregon offense from the inside out.
Good call. Whenever I see a quirky scheme this is the exact game I think of.

Auburn just crushed that Oregon line, they couldn’t move them.

The coming home story and being connected to the state is a very big deal for a lot of fans, me included. It would make a lot of fans feel that we finally have a true TN guy charge who loves the team as much as we do.

I hear what you are saying, but we have a TN guy that is our athletic director now. How is that working out. The fact is that no matter who we end up hiring (assuming JP is gone) he had better be successful, or he will be out the door too. Doesn't matter if he is a TN guy or not, and I personally would love to see a TN guy succeed and I love our team, but we are Tennessee fans and we will eat our own if they don't turn this program around.

I get both points. And honestly I think they are both accurate. I'm not against Chadwell at all, and am not as pro-Chadwell as several posters on here. I just want them to do their due diligence and hire the best guy for the job. I don't care if he's from South Africa or South Knoxville. We need a guy that can get us out of the ditch and back on a winning road.

not sure if you been paying attention or not big guy , but outsiders haven’t been cutting the mustard lately. So most of us are ready for someone who actually wants to be here.

Oh yea you nailed it hoss no one we've hired just wanted to be here that's gotta be it!

Okay, just got caught up for the day. Whew. Anyway since the discussion has moved to Chadwell and whether or not his offense would work in the SEC...I've been on this board long enough to remember us laughing at Florida, and saying Urbans offense wouldn't work in the SEC...

My only issue with Chadwell is he’s a hit or miss type of coach.

He looks great coaching against the Sun Belt but can he do that against SEC/Future NFL talent?

He may do well here, not saying that, but is it a risk that’s worth taking?

Does coaching against the Sun Belt really matter though? He has talent relevant to the the other teams he has coached against. He did beat BYU, who has a QB that some mock drafts have in the top 10. His team seems to not be scared and they play tough. I would like to see him have another season or two of success before hiring, but I will support him if he does become the coach of Tennessee.
