IMO, this upcoming Wed. night thru Friday will be when all the crap goes down. I strongly believe JP will be fired. I just hope the powers that be, whether Fulmer, Boyd, Plowman, etc and or others have been talking/backchanneling with good candidates over the past couple of months. We need a fire/hire within 48 hrs or less IMO. I would make Campbell then Napier say no and then, if they did, keep on them and make them to either say no again or we meet their demands. For those thinking Napier is too risky and he's too unproven, you'd be wrong. He could win very big here in short order if given the support he would want. But the meddlers would need to stay the heck away.

Referred to McGill as preacher man. Has clearly been around a while since I don't think McGill's ministry involvement has been discussed for quite some time.

So...yes...information is suspect. As much because he's trolling, as when he started doing so.

And on that note, if y'all would do the civilized thing and ignore these people rather than bludgeoning them until they create new accounts, life would be so much simpler.

Nah, you don’t protect bad coaches.

It would be silly for UT to go to the mat for this guy considering we wanted to fire him for performance based reasons already.
Agree with the idea.

If hes done enough on the field to warrant removal it may be a byproduct of protecting the future past him tho. It really depends on how much the AA puts on Pruitt and how much the put on UT.

Similarities with Butch, for sure. Dooley was ready to go, and Kiffin Kiffined.
Yeah...I was more or less thinking about the process after the coach left... That part, all very similar to how this process will likely play out. With the added inconvenience of sifting thru an NCAA deal to boot.

It'll be interesting to see what we come up with once the dust settles.

To everyone crying foul at the notion of Gus because he's "too average": when in the last fifteen years have we looked even average or above??? When have we had anything remotely resembling and average program or coach???
Very good point. You could argue a few of those Butch teams were above average but not great

I think we’ll be fine. Florida and Dan Mullen were just hit with a show-cause for “lack of institutional control.” We’ve always been told that term is a death knell, but they’re keeping him because he’s a good coach.

The fact we are going to fire our coach should mitigate the infractions on the University.

And here’s an unpopular opinion I don’t think many are going to agree with me about: we’re going to hire a second tier coach. I have my eyes on Chadwell, but it could be Bill Clark, Lance Leipold, anyone really. I would argue a self-imposed bowl ban would actually help the new coach because that expectation would be waived for said new coach who might be in over their head in Year 1.

What exactly would that mean?

Saban has absolute power and control over every inch of his program-- and a little bit beyond. Other schools, including UT, share authority up the chain, with the AD, Chancellor and President included in some aspects of decisionmaking.

IDK exactly what Napier would demand and what he would be willing to concede for a job he really wanted. But he's not Saban and he hasn't yet earned the right to demand absolute power and control. And he won't get it from many schools.

So we’re “doomed” if we can’t coax Urban, Peterson or Big Game Bob out of retirement or lure Matt Campbell. Meanwhile Auburn fired Malzahn to get to Cristobal, defaulted to Steele before an outcry, got turned down by both Napier and Clark before snapping up Boise State’s HC...and life goes on down in The Plains. We’re way too high strung. 😏

Unfortunately, we don't have a Ryan Day, Lincoln Riley or Dabo Swinney waiting in the wings. Even if UT were in a good place, we don't have anyone ready to step into the job.

The big problem with digging deep is you find stuff beyond what you started with. Firing someone for what you find comes with blowback, especially if they're not eager to go. So the question becomes how do you handle it with the NCAA waiting and watching, how much is it going to cost to make someone go quietly, how far down your list do you have to go to replace him and where's the sweet spot? Creating situations where UT is forced to pay large buyouts to go too far down the list has not been a winning strategy-- as everyone at UT is well aware.
Kind of my point. I think we've went too far down the road at this point for any type of positive outcome. It's minimize the damage time. That's why I think appointing an interim and wait a year gives you several advantages. Disadvantages as well but gives you time work on a quality replacement instead just grabbing whatever you can grab.

Bowl games are not a goal at Tennessee. Any limp dick program can make a bowl. This is Tennessee. Folks need to start acting like it.
Exactly. Which is why we don’t need Gus, which you are saying we should and all we can ask for is 8-10 wins. Lol. Get outta here. I don’t want Gus at all.

You mean I drove all the way to Tractor Supply to get a pitchfork for nothing?

I would hope we could land Marrone, O’Brien, or take a chance on Fisher before falling that far.

I could only really get enthused about Clark if Ingram was also coming with him to be AD.

Who have we interviews in the past that has demanded full control and passes up?
