For the record, it does not have to be proven the head coach “directed” an assistant coach to break the rules. The only thing in his contract language is he can be fired for cause if he OR one of his assistants committed a Level I or Level II violation. No closer to a decision than we were Friday. Investigation started out small, keeps getting bigger. Key to firing the head coach is if they show a connection that he directed his assistant coach to do all the stuff they keep finding and if so, can they fire him for it without putting anything in the termination that would give us major sanctions?
If they make a change, still little to zero change Freeze gets a call, but his agent will have the Dennis Dodds abs Bruce Feldmans of the world “reporting” he’s a front runner. Wasn’t true when they said it about SC and Auburn and it won’t be true with us.
Might as well scuttleI've come around to O'Brien. Really good offensive mind with some battle scars from his 2 seasons at PSU. He'd do just fine in Knoxville. Marrone would be a solid hire as well. As much as I would like Napier I just believe he stays put for at least 1 more season.
Whatever it is they look bad and inept at this point. This will be spun as a witch hunt and Pruitt will end up looking like the victim. Pruitt not negotiating a buyout after all this crap tells me he is going out swinging. For the record, it does not have to be proven the head coach “directed” an assistant coach to break the rules. He can also be fired if he committed enough Level III to be the equivalent of a Level II.
Judging by the way he handled VY, I don't think he'd do a great job dealing with diva college kids and diva college kid parents. That's the concern - recruiting. And admin. And boosters. It's a different environment. He would literally need someone to teach him about recruiting, boatload of ncaa rules (how to cheat), dealing with 16-22 year olds, parents, etc.
He was a better prospect before Purdue. How would you all feel if we hired Jeff Brohm?
For the sake of the discussion, would you feel differently if we were hiring him straight from WKU and Purdue were never on his resume?

Napier I guess is my pick. They don't have the balls to go after the guys I want. Our admin doesn't care about winning like Bama and A&M...so we are doomed to either guys like Napier, Chadwell and Clark and a few other good small program coaches with high upsides that I would understand giving a chance to, or boring, low ceiling rejects with proven serious flaws like Mehlzahn, Marrone and Fisher etc. that I am convinced will finish off our long running program suicide ritual.Who would be your reasonable choice
Kiffin is bright enough but Freeze has at least taken down the king more than once. I just think Kiffin comes with even more internal and external resistance than Freeze. I’d be happy with either at this point tho. At least, we’d lose scoring. The majority of our fan base would. Which is why we won't hire him. I'd still rather have Kiffin back.

So...you'd take proven failures that doomed to mediocrity over rolling the dice on a guy with a high ceiling that you don't know what will happen?Again. Agree to disagree. Not gonna argue.
Don't want Napier. Don't want Chadwell.
Don't want Marrone or Gus but I'd take either of them over an up and comer. Done with going that route.
