I'm officially on the Fischer bus. Could be a phenomenal hire and is very low risk. Hearing those comments about studying compliance, fascinated by SEC, making an impact on student athletes and then the article earlier about his respect for UT and saying he wants the job if it opens plus his ties to the state of TN....it's a no-brainer.

Give that man his money! (Malkovich voice) And give him control.

There’s that word again: control

How do they make it harder on the coach? If you’re at a place that gives you every resource you need to win like a Tennessee, that’s all you can ask for. You succeed or fail based off your own merit.

Booster love Fulmer.
It was no secret Haslam forced his opinion on decisions
You really think he’s the only one with “the right answer”?

I’ll also say that we would do well to find a coach who will bring in a DC who is not of the Saban tree. Too many SEC schools run basically the same defense so it is easy to attack because you have so much exposure to it.

There’s a reason UGA and Bama have defenses comprised primarily of 5 star kids, but are susceptible to shoot outs and/or surrending 40+ points vs good QB’s.

I might be the last person alive that is still not convinced a Pruitt is being fired.

I’ll be sitting here thinking how ridiculous it is that it hasn’t happened yet and how it makes no sense, and how I think they give him one more year. But then I’ll read up on this thread and twitter and be thinking he’s gone and it’s just a matter of time.

I’d say I’m 65-35 he stays still. Will fluctuate frequently.
Not convinced either. And I think many others aren't. Just trying to stay optimistic.

But our leaders...especially given this shizshow...don't inspire much faith that we'll do anything but spin our tires and make things worse for no reason.

The best coaches in today’s game are the CEO types. See Dabo, Saban, Day for example.

The great coordinators that get promoted to HC have a very bad success rate. See Pruitt for example.

Find a guy who can manage personalities, delegate, hire a good staff and let his coaches coach, and work on putting out fires as they arise.

That is what Fulmer did when he was coach and it’s no coincidence that is the last time we were relevant.

I’m not interested in a coach who has his system and he wants to be all up in the guts of whatever side of the ball it is. Like Pruitt has been.

Jeff Fischer says hello.

I've been in the basketball forum lately because I hate reading all the negative stuff about our program but what does everyone think about these Jeff Fischer comments.

He lost a lot of games in the NFL but had some amazing Titans teams in the early 2000's. I don't think development would be an issue but could he recruit? I have to think a 22 year career in the NFL would play well in recruiting.
It's hard to blame an NFL head coach for the team losses unless he has total control of the franchise. He has to live with the GM decisions on draft choices and most of the players probably make more than him. Fat contracts tend to make some players lazy. If he winds up at UT, I'll support him till they run him off. That's the UT way.

And 2 of your biggest rivals know it absolutely inside and out...probably better than your own DC.

I got to apologize to you, I’ve given you **** about Freeze but in all honesty right now he would be a grand slam hire. I’ve been worried he’d bring baggage and the league/ncaa would constantly have an eye on our recruiting and alike but at this point he brings a chance to win with what we have cause the offense covers a bunch of holes we’ll have.

No worries.

We’re all fans here that want the program to be relevant again.

I see it as the opposite. Gus is going to be a candidate for every major coaching opening next year. Us doing what it takes to get him a year early would signal we are serious about winning. Because he’s not going to take a job where he can’t win.
I overstated it. Let me put it this way, he's a bridge hire. He might stabilize us, but I don't see us winning anything of significance. The guy can't develop QB's and his offense is old news in the SEC now. Plus, he would need an excellent DC and he and Steele aren't on the best terms so he isn't coming.

He wants to run the football program without interference or input from the athletic department or boosters.

He wants a beefed up support staff (which we’ve already given Pruitt.)

He wants everyone rowing in the same direction.

We are not a fit with this.
He's exactly what we need

If Fisher is so great why hasn’t any team hired him since 2016?!?!? And people wanting a a coach like Marrone with a losing record?!?

Fisher was a good coach for years and nearly won a Super Bowl for the Titans while having to deal with the Patriots dynasty starting and Peyton at the Colts. Would bring immediate stability and legitimacy to our program.

He might not win a NC but would have us respectable in short order. Give him the right assistants and we could be golden. Would be a splash hire IMO. And I think he would get Bailey to stay.

row the boat?

It's not a good thing. They're seeing what's out there, gathering facts, making recommendations and preparing to defend allegations. And the outcome of that is TBD.
Wouldn't it be easier for pruitt and Fulmer to both be paid to go away and start over at this point

Other than catching lighting in a bottle with Napier or Chadwell, I don’t think anyone on a realistic list will get us to “win anything of significance.”
