I got to apologize to you, I’ve given you **** about Freeze but in all honesty right now he would be a grand slam hire. I’ve been worried he’d bring baggage and the league/ncaa would constantly have an eye on our recruiting and alike but at this point he brings a chance to win with what we have cause the offense covers a bunch of holes we’ll have.We done pissed one guy off that wanted the job.
Might as well do it again.
It’s what we do.
You are smarter than me. I can't make myself stop posting. Not much to say right now except we suck and this will not end well. Hope that you are doing well. So, been just stalking the board lately. Haven’t really found a desire to post about anything..... just wanted to say Hi to everyonehave a good day gents and gentets.
I want HermanI’ve got to preface by saying I’ll always respect Fulmer as a VFL legend, but I’m real conflicted on him as AD. Part of me wants him out as AD because I don’t think he has done a very good job so far. On the other hand, part of me feels like Fulmer as AD is actually the most important relationship to capitalize on that ‘22 instate class (not Pruitt). I think Fulmer has a great relationship with the Mays Family, I think the Mays Family has a great relationship with Ty Simpson, and I think Simpson is a huge part of landing that ‘22 instate class.
If Fulmer remains the AD, I’m more than okay with Marrone. I think it needs to be someone that Fulmer is familiar and fits with. Fulmer could also sell Wanya, Wright, and the Mays Bros on Marrone and NFL potential, and I think that sales pitch could carry over from there to that ‘22 class.
If Fulmer is out as AD, I just hope it’s anybody but Gilbert. Coaching wishlist would then be in order... first, the guys that will say thanks, but no thanks: Petersen, Campbell, Stoops, Fickell; the guys that UT will call when hell freezes over: Freeze, Kiffin; then the guys I hope are realistic: Napier, O’Brien, Herman, maybe Fleck.
If I had to guess, UT’s line of priority is:
Gus > Marrone > Napier
Bill O’Brien > Tom Allen > Chadwell
There are then a ton of coaches in the next tier. Bill Clark, Jeff Monken, Lance Leipold and others come to mind.
It’s all semantics.I’m not convinced he will be either but he won’t be fired. Too many key people in his corner.
They never up and come to our lowest expectations, and those are realistic expectations. It’s not expecting too much for our program’s floor to be 8-4 every year. That's clearly the problem-- hiring guys and expecting them to grow into the job while paying them like they've already done it.
UT has been unsuccessful in picking guys that can make the jump from where they were to where we need them to be. And that's a combination of making bad decisions and being forced to hire too far down our list. Up-and-comers don't always up-and-come to our expectations.
I don’t see it that. I think Gus is probably the best candidate to get us to that 8-4 floor that we talk about it. I definitely don’t think we would ever suck under Gus. I’m not gonna be as excited about Gus vs some candidate. But it will feel good knowing that we are at least competitive on a yearly basis.Gus is an absolute give up hire. Waive the white flag.
He would have to bring back the mustache but i would eventually talk myself into it. I know players and coaches alike absolutely love fisher. He was a part of some damn good draft classes so he has an eye for talent. I think he would be willing to give power to younger coordinators.I've been in the basketball forum lately because I hate reading all the negative stuff about our program but what does everyone think about these Jeff Fischer comments.
He lost a lot of games in the NFL but had some amazing Titans teams in the early 2000's. I don't think development would be an issue but could he recruit? I have to think a 22 year career in the NFL would play well in recruiting.

If hes the pick. It will be another 10 years of misery
I see it as the opposite. Gus is going to be a candidate for every major coaching opening next year. Us doing what it takes to get him a year early would signal we are serious about winning. Because he’s not going to take a job where he can’t win.Gus is an absolute give up hire. Waive the white flag.
