This "bargain" narrative doesn't really apply. UT overpays coaches to underachieve. That's far from a "bargain" or "cheap."

UT has been doubling and tripling coach's salaries for a decade. Butch brought along his buddies and gave them huge pay bumps. Pruitt has kicked it up a few notches-- with assistants, facilities and support staff. The problem isn't not spending enough-- it's not getting enough out of what we put in.

I think that's where the problem lies, though. They're being called bargain because they haven't proved anything really when they're hired.

Hard to get more out of something that hasn't produced really anything to begin with.

If I had to guess, UT’s line of priority is:
Gus > Marrone > Napier
Bill O’Brien > Tom Allen > Chadwell

There are then a ton of coaches in the next tier. Bill Clark, Jeff Monken, Lance Leipold and others come to mind.
lolol! No on all those. Gus would be the only one to sniff at but he should be at the very bottom of any list.

They gonna find it real far from cost effective when they finally manage to do the one thing I thought I’d never see in my life -> an apathetic fan base.

If that is it l..might as well but it to the ground!!! Cancel football for a couple years and then start over.

Except for Napier, that's a sad list.

Why do the people who disagree with you have to shut up? The faith you have in what you believe must pretty weak. By the way, Tennessee is gonna be really good next season and Florida and Georgia will be down...
Spewing complete guesses as certainty any year is completely ridiculous, especially this year.

My faith has nothing to do with anything discussed. And you saying my faith is weak is completely ignorant. So maybe you should shut up too.

Would be worried about his ability to recruit young kids, plus his understanding of recruiting rules. Not saying he couldn't do it, but do we really want another "learning on the job" experiment?
I was GM of a successful startup engineering company (top 20 on Inc 500) but am not an engineer. I made sure I surrounded myself with people who knew things I didn’t and I listened to them. If he knows what he doesn’t know and makes good hiring decisions, it’s possible that he could be successful.

Like us with Spurrier back in the day. Didn’t mean we didn’t respect him. And if he had been available to steal at his peak?

Except Strickland and Mullen were actively working with the NCAA to nail Freeze, even while they were engaged in similarly shady recruiting tactics.

We’re going to f around so much that we’re going to fall face forward into having to hire Freeze and it’s going to be glorious 🤞
Makes me wonder if that’s the whole purpose of this. Those who want Freeze know we would never hire him, if we had just fired Pruitt after the A&M game, because the administration knows we could have hired a name with possibly a lower ceiling but not a low floor, and that has less baggage.
