Im not sure the problem created will be fixed with $ saved. At least not by itself.

The sad thing is, if they want to get rid of him they dont need that option to begin with.
I agree.. They're doing damage that can't be fixed by simply throwing money at it.

Yes, they could've and should've just fired him and paid the buyout but evidently the money people want their way. If they can pay less and still get their way, then why the hell not.. Unfortunately it appears "their way" is not in the best interest of the program..

I would say disconnect is being kind. It's pretty obvious Pruitt has pissed off a lot of the wrong people.. Add to that, he's NOT Saban so they're done with him. I just hope whatever they negotiate his buyout down to will cover the damage being done by the tactical nuclear option they're using to try and get rid of him......

If they do all of this to save $2 million, then...it’s on them.

Don't care how many times this has been said, here it is again. 13 years is enough. We have to fix this and fix this now. We can't afford to be here again in another 3 years. We need to hire a proven winner. Hugh Freeze is that guy. Freeze is the answer to our problem. He would come in here and he would win immediately. He knows this league, he knows how to recruit, he knows how to beat the top teams in this league. What he did at Ole Miss was extraordinary, especially doing it with Bo Wallace and Chad Kelly. He is an offensive coach and this is now an offensive game. He is the answer.

And you know what, he would take the job. Some have speculated that this investigation will make it hard on us to hire a new coach. Well, not if that coach is desperate for a job and no one else will interview him because they're afraid of the weak and powerless NCAA or the media. TN needs to go all in and say, "we don't care what you think." Most of the media seems to not care about Freeze anyway. Will Wade is still at LSU. We need to win. Freeze is a winner. He would take this job tomorrow. Do we want to win or not?

Break out the African prayer candles and hire this man!

Some media folks would take their shots at us but who cares? We already look like a bunch of dorks nationwide anyways.

There would also be lots of media folks that would say "dang, about time Tennessee made a serious hire"

He's the one coach who our biggest rivals are hoping we don't take a chance on.

Auburn would be kicking themselves for not calling him 2 years from now.

CLIFFNOTES
0) Notes that Pruitt's status was an open secret since we backed out of the Liberty Bowl and we weren't hiring replacements, not surprising.
1) Tennessee is engaging in a David Beaty-esque situation, because we straight up do not have the cash to afford the full buyout.
2) Suggests that Tennessee raises our hands and say "we have done bad" to get ahead of the NCAA investigation that would come with pulling a David Beaty.
3) The value of the Tennessee job will be clearer after the investigation (long, long-winded response to this question so I summed it up.)
4) Steven/Host wants Gus but the caller suggests it could only work if Gus could bring an Auburn level staff, but notes that Gus would only come with some serious cash/competition incentives.
5) Comes back to the David Beaty situation, really makes note this investigation, and our handling of it, could seriously cost us with candidates like Napier, Campbell and more.
6) Rambles about Vandy, but notes that Clark Lea is making sure Nashville is a priority (not good for Tennessee bc Nashville really is booming and a future hot spot of recruiting IMO)

My big takeaway? I think we're underselling how serious the investigation & David Beaty-esque situation we are in. To me it seems like Freeze would be the first & possibly only person to take this job even with the issues we're facing.

If the David Beaty (I had to look it up too) example is the rationale used in this line of thinking, I think whoever is spewing this is misinformed. Our situation doesn't really compare:

David Beaty was fired from KU Nov. 2018 - his buyout was 3 Million. (CJP would garner 12.5 Million if fired according to what we've been told)
That money was placed in escrow at the time he was fired (same as would happen at UT)
Summer 2020, KU pays David Beaty 2.55 Million dollars to settle the elongated lawsuit.

So, KU essentially came out as a wash if you figure they paid the settlement and the lawyers at the end of the day. Even if you say, they 'saved' money due to not having to pay the coach until years later, that money was still in escrow, not able to be used for other things.

In reviewing this case more and more, it seems that it's not the example of avoiding a contractual buyout the media would have us believe that it is. Unless I'm completely missing the boat here, I'm not seeing this example as a precedence for UT to follow in this regard?

There is more to it than that. That's a speeding ticket to some of these guys.. It has to be more of a power play than saving a few million whild dragging the program thru a football field of doo doo...

One thing that was illuded to in that podcast was that this tactic may also be used to fight the ridiculous buyouts now being commanded.. Maybe some good could come from it by pushing things more towards performance/incentive based contracts.

I know, I'm probably being overly optimistic....

That’s very tough to do. You have to get other high level schools to do it too. If we are the only school to offer heavy incentive-laden contracts, then our prospective pool drastically shrinks. It’s a market. The coaches that we would look at would simply wait it out until another university offers them more guarantees.

I'm not sure what kind of "news" Trey is trying to make this. This is just a standard agreement letter for their services. I guess showing it started late November.....which we all already knew.
It may have been him getting a little defensive that Dan Patrick had "breaking news " today that there would be an investigation into the UT football program. Maybe Trey is trying to mark his territory.

Whats funny is multiple outlets got this agreement, not just Trey. He might've filed the FOIA request but this wasn't some secret scoop he hacked into the mainframe to obtain lmao
