Exactly. Fulmer's success came from the synergy of Cut, Chavis, and him working together. None of them kept up with the game. Once the better programs caught up with Fulmer's recruiting, it was over.

Cut's system was a bit more advanced and adaptable than the D of Chavis and system operations of Fulmer. However, you still see him running some of the passing scheme and plays of the 90's at Duke, which no longer work.
I don't know how well he's up on the game today, but I think Cut kept up fairly well during his stints as OC. His 2006-07 stint saved Fulmer's job temporarily and took Ainge from a total headcase to being drafted.

Cut was by far the brainiest of the 3, IMO. Fulmer was like the rainmaker/marketer, but he was nowhere near as good at that once Saban, Richt, and Urban entered the SEC. Chavis was a good defensive mind in the 90s, but didn't look like he changed with the game in any regard whatsoever. He never did figure out how to deal with the spread or a mobile QB.

good read. Ed O is the epitome of what Pruitt Needs to be if he gets another crack at being a head coach. He’s willing to listen to other people and take chances with unproven minds and letting them do their thing.

I agree. But Ed O got humbled at Ole Miss first. UT may be Pruitt's Ole Miss.

"The Vols are back. And before long we will be taking a bite out of everybody we play's azz."

May be one of Phil's more embarrassing quotes. Almost as embarrassing as what we have seen on the field for 3 seasons and now in the media.

End it, UT. Start over and do it right for a change.

AP just needs to report and quit carrying water for Coach Pruitt.
Hubbs has been great during all of this. He’s not got going to come out and give the hottest takes or go scorched earth because quite honestly that’s not his job. He has done a good job imo of pushing the Athletic department and releasing a fair amount of what’s going on.......

Austin ,on the other hand, has shown that he got to be close with some of this staff and it benefited him a lot because he has been really connected especially on recruiting and assistant hire/fire during pruitts tenure..... but now that the jury is out on Pruitt, he’s in a tough place because i don’t think he can give the opinions that he REALLY thinks because it will upset the hands the fed him. He already stated that he got cussed out by a coach a couple weeks ago for something.

yeah. he'd probably like to have that one back.

All the soccer players I have ever met had better be able to run in a fight or flight situation.
WTF.... That's the whole point in "fight or flight".. If you choose flight, you better be able to run and soccer players CAN run..

That said, don't ever let size fool you. I guarantee many of those scrappy little f**kers would beat you like a rented mule...

😂🤣😂

Come on, man, I agreed with you the first time. You didn't have to say it again :)

I don’t have a disdain for Phillip. He is a friend (off the field) and was a hell of a football coach and did wonderful things for the program and the university in the hey day. But just because of that doesn’t give him a pass to do the things he has since becoming the AD. PERIOD.

Behind closed doors he has done more damage to the football program since he departed than any single person in the history of the program. If you ask any current coach who has been there since he has been AD in a closed room setting you would be astonished to hear the meddling and the toxic environment he has created. Trust me here...as more and more of this staff leave the more and more dirt will come out publicly about him and it will be a real bad look for him and the university for allowing it to happen.

There is a reason why you have a large conglomerate of very high profile boosters who have demanded him ride off into the sunset...guess we will see what happens.
I can’t in good conscience “like” this post because it makes me depressed, but thank you for sharing the information.

i think AP is the classic guy in the middle that just can't say/report what he knows probably needs to and his frustration about it is visible.

he's dismissive of fans because he probably does know otherwise, but at the same time, can't really ignore what a mess this staff has created, so he can't go all in either way.

i think a lot of it though, just has to do with the lack of common sense that's being applied.

at the end of the day, it's up to him how he handles it publicly and the visible frustration just isn't a good look....and fans have no problem in letting him know.

ftr, i don't think he's a water carrier, but i certainly can understand why anyone would think so.

I don't either but there have been many instances where companies just don't want to deal with the fallout of trying to defend their actions. The media can be ruthless and if they choose to do so, can make life miserable for companies and offending parties. It's just the world we live in today.
It is wrong and I wish some good lawyers would start ripping companies that do it apart.

My sources say; The possibility is there, but the probability is he may or may not be interim. It's more likely that he won't eventually be HC at UT, but could end up being a HC at another school assuming the possibility that someone would want him for that position. Things are fluid and can change quckly or slowly depending on the "climate" of the situation........ Time will tell...... maybe.

How did I do?....

I just moved you to "5 star posting status"

Chavis' success was as a developer of talent. He also had them ready to bite nails at game time. However, his scheming did not keep up and it showed as his career winded down. I spent some good time talking with Cut before a Vandy game one year in Nashville. He was very gracious in doing so. The pick of the litter by far. Highly intelligent about the game and leading people in general. IMO he would have succeeded at about anything he chose to do in life because he had the discipline to deep dive and communicate well. The game has not passed Cut by even today. He just hasn't fully implemented the current concepts at Duke. He may be about to retire and does not want to commit to it, who knows. You are spot on with Fulmer.

Really good as three together in their prime.

Throw in a "there is potentially a possibility we might know something within the next 48/72/96 hours/week" and it's perfect.
