Doing some research on Marrone, his recruiting was pretty average at Syracuse. It's tough to get a real calculation because the year after he left Syracuse jumped from the Big East to the ACC.

These class rankings are what they would have equated to in the ACC that year (per 247.) None of these classes were higher than 6th in the Big East at the time.

2009: 14th
2010: 11th
2011: 10th
2012: 11th
2013: 13th

He was the coach there from 2009-2012, so the 2009 and 2013 class are not totally his, but I thought I would include them for more information and data.

What these numbers tell me, which isn't surprising given he has such a positive reputation in the NFL, is that he's a pure coach and develops the talent he has available to him.

Again, these are Big East numbers, but given the talent he had above, he finished:

7th in the Big East in 2009: 4-8
4th in the Big East in 2010: 8-5
7th in the Big East in 2011: 5-7
1st in the Big East in 2012: 8-5

Two 8 win seasons in four years, Syracuse hadn't reached 8 wins since 2001 before Marrone.

My list

Campbell- not happening, but why not try
Freeze- Makes too much sense, Instant fan favorite
Napier- Amazing potential, inexperienced to the big job
Fickell- Amazing potential, but I have a hard time trusting success at schools like Cincy, Houston, and Central Florida. All coaches seem to do well at those jobs.
Herman- Great recruiter, good offense, unsure of development,
Marrone- Solid coach, nothing to get excited about, Not a long term solution, Better than Obrien.
O’Brien- Better than Pruitt
Malzahn- Yikes, best years are behind him, Offense is no longer innovative, can’t get Georgia recruits like he did in the past. Maybe better than Pruitt.

Of all places, we have the dumbest people in the athletic department. Truly tragic.

95% of other schools in our position would have had this wrapped up, but for some reason getting embarrassed on national television by our opponents isn’t enough, now this mess.

Honestly, shut the program down, because tbh, all this **** the last 15 years has ruined UT football for me. I’m tired of getting mocked and laughed at by other fans. Year in and out we get hopeful, and think this year will be the year, but it’s always ends up the same, getting beat down, laughed at, then being hopeful when an insider comes around and gives us hope, but ultimately, we know what is going to happen.

I totally agree here--- most other schools would have put this entire mess to bed and would have things wrapped up by now-- no matter if we were keeping gump or getting a new coach... yeah yeah I get and understand all the complexity of the situation and all that LA Vol has explained, but at the end of the day, the reason this hasn't been resolved is because our Admin and AD are basically a clown show.. no one on the same page.
It's utterly embarrassing to be a UT fan now, if you can believe it, more than usual... I just got off a business teams call and was made fun of and caught hell from five different people in three different conferences... Thank the lord we squeaked a W out in Bball last night, or it would have been worse...

We've been dealing with this for the past 15yrs, and I truly think it's hit a fever pitch where most of us are at a breaking point. I may be in denial, but unless things finally get leveled out over this year, the Admin and AD will finally start to see a big drop off in fandom...
